What's the limiter set at on the DCi ??

Hit 118 on the clock today at redline (to be fair from 110 I was going downhill), didn't want to take it any further in top gear, but a couple of times my foot has slipped and pressed the gas a bit hard during heel and toe and have sent it to 4.6k rpm. (redline is 4.2).

I am definately going to get a longer final drive if this car can hit the redline as easy as it did without any modifications.

I am thinking that 125mph will be easy after a few tinkerings. Booked in for it's first surgery session on April 10th. Nothing else booked yet but there will be a few bits and pieces:quiet:

Redline is at 5k plus or minus 50rpm.
Power drops off after 4.5k for definate I need a good RR test to see what happens up there but 4k is supposidly mx power but change up point is about 4.5k in 1st gear.
I've hit 115 on the clock on a stright road (I've honestly been to Germany) with 2 people and a load of bags/tools
Hit 120 down the bottom of the Foxhole on the ring (a very ver step hill) that was one up and I don't think it would have done any more realy it was only because the hill was very steep.
however my speeds is out probaly only 105 on the level and 110 on the dip.

Mines only the 65hp model as well the 80 has slightly longer gears which will get a few more mph.

If you want to do high speeds make sure you chnage the oil a lot I've gained 3mph on the strigths on track when I changed my oil (it was totally cooked though before hand).

Hello edde, how's things ?

I am looking into all of this, though I was recommended by my dad to goto Renault first, they told me if I service anything myself (including oil) then that invalidates the warranty :dead:

Not amazing I know, which is why I'll keep the old exhaust and am hesitant about making changes that I can't fix back myself.

Warranty direct say they will cover anything that wasn't caused by a modified part (ie if the air con goes and I have an ECU modification). But my manufacturers warranty doesn't expire for another year and a half.

Shame really, perhaps I'll have to make do with larger alloys for the time being, I know that'll give a few mph at best, but I don't like having the same wheels as all the 1.2s wondering around.

Contrary to what I was saying about getting superchips to get as much as they can, it's looking more and more as if I'll have to tell them to be gentle !!

However, as WD will cover anything not caused by that, and superchips will, I'm covered from all angles if anything were to go wrong, just have to sort it all out.

A little VTR tried to have a go with me earlier, was rather comical accerating from 60, he obviously didn't change down as I just passed him and saw his face looking over with a little fraustrating.

Am really loving this car.

BTW I'm guessing the 65 and 80 rev to different numbers. As my redline is about 4200rpm. Haven't tried to hit a limiter, though I might see if superchips can set one for me.

If I can get 31mph per 1000rpm with a longer final drive and slightly larger wheels then 4000rpm (about peak power(will be roughly 115-120hp)) will be 200kmph. And peak torque (looking for 240nm) will be at about 70mph for easier motorway accelerating.

I know this is mildly ambitious, as it does about 22mph per 1k rpm stock and the BMW 120d does 35mph per 1000rpm in 6th, and that produces about 160hp and 300nm.

We shall see.

Fine thanks.

Renault are talking blurb agaian they have to prove any changes you do is responsible for the failure. If you use standard oil and filters they cannot even prove that the cars different I've chnaged my oil a few times and there no impact.

Get the turini alloys they look much better and have bigger rolling radius.
Changing the oil can have no impack if you use standard Renault oil (the best stuff realy) how are they going to show you messed about (just make sure you use a new sump washer as if you try and reuse them they leak).

There great cars get the suspension done (FK coilover would be my choice) but even as fully standard you can (assuming you'r a bit mad) overtake some quick cars even on track.

Nope same engines 5k redline with a tolerance of plus or minus 50rpm.

I drive my car to the limit a lot 50mph in second gear on the clock is no problem. Its just power drops off over 4.5k.

theres no point in putting bigger wheels on to get more top end as you will loose acceleration by doing this so will make you slower overall on a track, wont handle as well eather.

(i know diesels have a lot more torque which might mean bigger wheels have less effect on acceleration tho?)

Increasing the final drive ratio, or by getting slightly bigger wheels (can't go that far on a Clio anyway), will increase the speed per rpm.

Yes the diesel does have a lot of low to mid range power, and tuning mainly increases the top end power, thus allowing for greater speeds.

It's interesting about the 5k redline, I shall take a picture of my tach for you if you like, perhaps Renault aren't the brightest, that said, I have seen some DCi's with tachs going up to 7k rpm. The guy at the dealership said "yes I know it's a very revvy diesel..." :dead: :dead: :dead: Needless to say I walked away from that one !

All dci tachos go to 7k its the ame instrument cluster as petrol cars (none RS) have.
I've got a video here or one going to 6k but thats specially remapped with a 1.9 BMW 320 turbo and extensive mods on it.

Its a good engine when its got a load of miles on mine just over 60k and its much better.
