Whats this box please?

  CLS, RS MEG
What is this box for? Its on my dynamique clio, and rattles around. I've noticed some cables running through it have worn sleeving, leaving copper conductors on show. How do i take it off so i can repair the wiring?

Looks like a D4F 1.2 16v, might be the ecu I can't see from that picture, looks like the back of the intake plenum ?

Thats the cut into the wiring loom and you break down box!
Its a security cover to stop the ecu being removed basically.
If it was on my car and rattling around I would personally bin it.
It can be re-fitted properly but will eventually cut into the loom or come loose and rattle again.

To remove it, pop a mirror down the back so you can see it at the back, look for a small hole and use a small pick to turn the wheel(nut), fiddly as fook.

Could the exposed wiring cause stalling problems? I've applied tape to secure it and stop ratteling, and tape around the top of the wires, but is it something that needs sorting? My firend has the same car, checked his little box and the wires are exposed through the same problem aswel.

Yes, causes all sorts of running fault and throttle responce/idle is one of the affected area's caused by this.

is this cover which has cut through exposing conductors causing my 1.2 16v to stall on idle and feel lumpy on idle?

Most probably, seems to be a commonish thing.

if it shorts it out they tend to just die.

poor idle etc I find is ormally throttle body contamination.

However get it repaired properly.

Also it should have the split plastic corrugated sleeving on it so it won't wear through

the wheel needs to be adjusted right to stop it falling off, the wheel turns a shaft which sends a wedge down to jam it, its rarely been done properly.

cable ties are one of the most used things I have!

loom repairs are awkward without them. rens cloth tape to loom mounting brackets are pish, cablie tie and its not going nowhere.

I broke my cable tie tool thing, you know pulls em tight and snips it flush, it was an emotional time, similar to when I broke the end off my fav 1/4 ratchet 6 inch extension. i find it hard to talk about I'm still not over it, the new bits just don't measure up.
