Wheel experts would these fit

no, a 49

so 49 offset should fit, no (minimal) rubbing when turning and fine when driving?

also whats the smallest width of tyre u can have on a 8 inch wide wheel?

ET49 will rub on the inside at the front and prob on the strut, youd need coilovers and the back would prob be ok.

7.5 wide fit with a 38 off set (dont they?), so for 8 inch you need to add 1/4 of an inch onto 38, not sure what 1/4 of an inch is in mil.

(Theory, whatever you go up in wheel width, you need to add half of the increase to the offset)

Just working on the basis that your current wheel is fine as is, so if you dont increase the amount of wheel protruding outwards hen you have to bring it inwards, by taking the 1/2" that would be placed either side.

explain weird please. and think how sweet itll look though! muwahahaha .

would it have 215s or wider on it anyone know for sure?

your moving the whee centre lines, reducing track, increase scrub radius, increasing steering torque moments.

if the wheel moves 1/2" inards, that is 12mm, so you would need to buy spacers up to 12mm, or get wheels wiht an offset of ET25, std wheel are ET37 - 12mm = ET25.

But as was said above this is gonna bugger up your handling. If it was me, id buy the wheels and try em, if you need to move them out you can always use spacers

but there soo wide the extra 12mm inwards of the 49 offset will leave the outside sitting in the same place, the inside of the rim will be far closer to the car than the originals

I think I can clear this up,

Lunner, you have the right idea but have went the wrong way with the offset.

Ben J, I agree it would look good but as Ben R has said it will decrease the handling of the car by moving the centre line of the wheel closer to the car.

Ben R, the reason for the coilovers was the front, as if you fit ET49 on the front they will rub the strut, and coilover would help this as they are smaller.

So to answer the actual question:

If 7.5" wide wheels fit with an ET38 then you will get 8" with an ET44 on without arch rubbing.

If 7.5" wide wheels dont fit but 7.0" wide wheels fit with an ET38 then you will get 8" with an ET49 on without arch rubbing

8J ET 49 will sit at the same place on the outside edge as 7J ET38

8J ET 44 will sit at the same place on the outside edge as 7.5J ET38

Ok, now we have covered the arch rubbing, next problem is as you make the wheel wider and increase the offset you bring the inside of the wheel closer to the inside arch (and strut on the front) so you may have problems here.

On the front it will probably rub the strut with 8J ET49 however 8J ET44 will probably be ok. When on full lock with either of these wheels you will run the inner splash guard.

On the back, I dont think there should be any problem, only possible problem is rubbing the chassis leg which I dont think it will.

Going for either of the 8J ET44 or 49 will reduce your handling as the centre of the wheel has been brought closer to the car.

Ben J, offset goes the other way, as it gets bigger the wheels get closer to the hubs, and as it gets smaller they stick out more.

yes, but you have positive and negative offsets.

0 is no offset, -et35 brings the wheel 35mm inwards and +et35 pushes it out 35mm.

BenR is 100% correct, i have a possitive off set on my car, but am prob the only person on here that does. EVERY one else has a negative offset

lol....i wonder why col! hahaha

Agree on the coilovers aswell, the spring seat will rub, but i was talking about the rear of the car. Wasnt even thinking about the front, for some reason i thought you were only talking about the rear lol.

so summing up, rear will prob be ok if you can get the right offset, and front could be dodgy.

However to through a spanner in the works, i had 215/40/16 tyres on my car when it as std with a ET38 and no rubbing
