Wheel refurbishment

Just had a quote to refurb 4 x 20 inch diamond cut wheels for 675 incl vat and tyre refitting. I believe they will be clear coated afterwards (not sure if that always happens).

Sounds expensive or is that the going rate?

Any recommendations in North Wales area?

@Ay Ay Ron @Ph1 Tom?

Been a while since I used anyone, last time I went to this guy https://www.thewheelrestorer.co.uk

@RustyMojo might be able to point you in the right direction too.

Thank you Tom, that website says 699 for four wheels, unsure if that is with or without VAT. Maybe the price I have been quoted isn't that bad and the days of £100 a wheel are long gone 😂

You can still get reasonable pricing if it's just powder coating. the issue is the diamond cutting I think.

That's what I asked the guy I phoned today as well.

He said he couldn't just powder coat it because once the diamond cut has gone he needs to cut it before powder coating anyway or it will be rough underneath and look s**t.

No they don't, I'd probably get them powder coated anyway as any damage (kerb/stone chips) and off they go again 😂

But according to the refurb place they still need to turn them because of how the corrosion affects the powder coat finish if it isn't removed properly.

Ahh, I've never heard that - the place I have used before acid dips, then sand blasts then powder coats unless you want a diamond cut finish I can't see why they would say that.

I've used Leptons and Wheel Works but not on any diamond cut wheels sadly, although both companies offer it. I would happily use either company again though, Lepsons for something posh, Wheel Works for everything else.

I'll ask my Friend how much for you however he is in Huddersfield - awesome Job mine you.

What car are they off ???

£675 sounds mad money to me

Huddersfield is quite out of the way, ideally looking for something a bit closer by.

@Flob am I correct in thinking wheel works is in west Sussex only? Also a bit too far away!

I've found two more local shops, let's see what they quote and maybe as @JamesBryan says this is just the going rate.

Just over £150 a wheel doesn't sound too bad for a special finish 20" wheel to me.

I'm glad I don't pay anywhere near that money - however over 30yrs in the Trade helps keep the costs down.

Also it's a trust thing who to use as there is a massive difference sometimes in quality -

Last Renault member who I helped couldn't believe the price for a top job - removing tyres too and replacing them back on - £160 for a set of standard 18's -

Wow, for those kinds of prices it will be worth the drive!

I'll see what the other local places come back with.

Agree on the trust thing, I've had two places do a below par job and was massively put off by it.

I’m getting my 19’s done tomorrow - £240 inc.

Tyres off, acid dip, shot blast, powder coat, clear coat, new valves, tyres on, balanced.

If I wanted them diamond cut (barf) then it would be £360+vat.

£600+ is mental money.

@MLB All the places in North Wales are charging stupid money for wheel refurbishments/resprays, I'd try somewhere towards Liverpool/Manchester if you want a proper job with a proper price.

I've used www.thewheelrestorer.co.uk in the past too, but there is a place in Llay doing wheels that my brother used (he didn't have diamond cut, just powdercoat), and I keep seeing adverts for a place in Ellesmere Port too with some reasonable offers.

My mate powdercoats them to replicate the diamond cut look, seems most want them done this way as it lasts much longer, think he's around 300 for a set of 20's, that's dipped, blasted, repaired and coated
