Clio 182 - Refurbishment and Modifications

  FRP - Clio 182
28/11/14

Finally got my camera back.

Few more parts arrived today,

Reception on the radio has been poor since fitting the stubby ariel so replaced it for one in between OEM and stubby.

Frustratingly it doesn't sit flush with the mount.

The rear wiper I purchased was to long so replaced it for OEM sized one.

I have made a start on the engine bay, unfortunately no before photos but it was bad, obviously had never been cleaned from new so had 10+ years of filth, it is getting there mind you.

The images below are the parts that will be re-sprayed along with the new V6 / Trophy spoiler when it arrives as well as some OEM head light washer blanking plates, only minor marks but its letting car down in my eyes:

I've enjoyed reading this so far. Fair play to all the work you've done up to date in such a short time

Thanks yeah have been cracking on, worries me once I have this completed that I might have to get rid of the Civic run around and get something else to work on, would love another Williams Clio again.

Looking at Clio 172 Cup now as a project, be wicked to have a track car. Clio is hard to beat for the money.
Decent set of tyres and brakes, job done.

You are lucky as it looks like you have a lot of driveway space for cars. Would you be keeping your 182 though and have both a 182 and a 172 cup.

The silver Clio based on this thread is my other halves car.
I have an FRP and a shitty Civic run around, I would get rid of the Civic and have a 172 Cup instead. Well thats the thinking.
Just having a look, few available for reasonable money.

Cant beat a 1*2 for price and fun mate, a renaultsport clio makes more sense than a basic civic.

By the way with the 16mm on the rears running standard 182 wheels and standard sized tyres if you have more than two people in the car it does rub slightly. Which is really annoying as I was told that no rubbing occurs, I will be fitting Turins to mine soon so I will be running a different setup as the off set of the wheels is different.

It seems pretty well shaped, there is an area above where the brake light sits which needs a bit of attention as its not completely smooth, so I will ask the painter to have a look over it first, just waiting for the blanking plates so I can get them all painted up :)

Got mine through on Friday and am also really impressed, mine was a bit patchy around the brake light too:
UQxNF9y.jpg

nothing major though bit of filler and a sand and will be perfect. I also had a bit of excess that needs cutting off from the bottom:

Nice that the mount holes have a metal nut embedded. I know from Dann2707 that not all of them line up though and am thinking about whether to drill my car or the spoiler.

  FRP - Clio 182
In your first image thats really similar to mine, only requires a bit of work, seems odd that they missed it given that you can see they have worked on other sections, yeah from what I understand the outer holes line up but the inner ones don't, thinking I might drill the boot rather than the spoiler especially as the screw threads are already there, just want to make sure protect the holes afterwards on the boot thats all

Will be drilling my boot too, like you say would be a shame to waste the screw threads. Good point on protecting the hole. Im probably going to fill the washer hole before painting it and run it without washer. Mine doesnt work anymore and hardly used it before. Also the metal washer that foes around the nozzle is quite big and wouldnt want a metal washer visible.

  FRP - Clio 182
Yeah I didn't really get chance to look at that but yeah if the metal washer is visible then I will certainly look at having it filled before spraying, having said that with mine being silver it probably wouldn't stand out to much, I think I might have a trial fitment before I send it off for spraying and make my mind up from there.

I had rubbing on mine with hard corners. Standard alloys with 205 tyres.

Changed tyres to 195 and no rubbing issues [emoji106] A lot of people run 195s anyway.

Car went in for MOT today and failed on rear tyres as un even wear on the inside edge, replacing with a set of these
Also rear pads low so had a new set put on.

If you have 2 people in with luggage you might notice the scraping, any more weight than that and put it this way you won't be booting it, if its just two people then I haven't noticed it rubbing. I would perhaps look at 15mm spacers on the rear instead of 16mm, not that it will make much difference, or to be extra safe go for 10mm.

  FRP - Clio 182
Yeah hate it rubbing, only went for it on the basis that I was told it wouldn't. Never mind as I have mentioned in my case I will be having new wheels on soon enough.

  FRP - Clio 182
By the way mate do note that I am running cooksport springs, I reckon you wouldn't get rubbing at all with my spacer setup if you had standard shocks and springs.
