Which steering rack - another thread.

I've been to Renault main dealer with my VIN and of course registration plate, hoping that they could find out the exact rack on my 172 Cup (2002 - 52).

There are 4 possible racks, and the parts guy told me that when ordering things like track-rods, the rack type is irrespective, as the rods are the same. I wasn't too sure about this, so I just went away.

GSF Car Parts wanted me to find out which type of rack I had, so that they could provide the correct ones.

It's a long shot, but would anyone have any idea?

And pattern rods and ends are OK yeah? Renault wanted £100 a side, plus VAT.

For some reason I am leaning towards the rack that begins with "T" (can't remember the rest of it LOL), but I don't really know why. Hahaha.

SMI rack, i'll get you the 172cup part number tomorrow

rods are renault only (172 cup has specific longer rods)

track rod ends you can get from anywhere, they are the same

Thanks Fred! I knew I could count on you to put me straight and sort it out Thanks for the part number also, I'll take it straight to them, save messing about going through the on-screen system with them.

They'll only **** it up, there is 4 or 5 racks listed, but clios only ever had SMI racks, i think the other listing are for LHD cars as ive never seen a TRW etc rack
