Whiring noise? (video included)

So it's not the best video but my car doesn't feel right to drive its like rough through the steering wheel it feels like something is rubbing through the drive shafts it's an odd feeling also it's accompanied by this great whiring/whining noise (towards end of video)



Anyone any clues? Mainly when I lift off and engine braking comes into play or at higher speeds about 80mph

Jack a wheels up one at a time, give it a good quick spin with your hands. listen for any noise, This will help to rule out a wheel bearing.

Cheers mate I have had the car up and spun the wheels individually there's a ticking kind of noise from the gear box but if you spin both whelks at the same time it stops

Sound like a driveshaft.

I had the same thing you describe it was damaged diff teeth on one of the sun gears

I have replaced both driveshafts oddly enough as it knocks when setting off of when I turn left but the knocking stayed

Sorry my speakers on my laptop are rubbish so i cant really hear anything, but i had the same thing you describe. Have you checked the wheel bearings?

Yep all wheel bearings are secure and not moving matey

Do they all sound smooth when rotating? failing that its probably your differential

Yeh all smooth doesn't help my tracking is out

Got another video although I'm not sure if you can hear the whiring any better it's behind the engine noise

Tyres not catching on some part of the bodywork? It seem to change tone dependant on speed.

Im sure they aren't matey not that I can see anyway will double check though and when I accelerate it tones the noise down (probably because I engine noise) and when I let off the throttle it whirs a lot more

The abs ring isnt rubbing against the bottom ball joint or abs sensor is it?

Ooooo the drive shaft I put on had an ABS ring on but my car doesn't have ABS but in sure it was whirring before then? I hate cars soo confusing

I would put my money on gearbox bearings:S

Take it as that's a new gearbox/rebuild?
