Why make DS3000 pads for a 1.6 and not DS2500

  Not a 320d
I can find DS3000 pads (Track day wouldnt you agree) and not DS2500, for the MK3 1.6 16v Clio. Because that makes so much sense, why make track day pads for a 1.6 and not fast road???

I need a decent set of pads, nut there doesnt seem to be much available, except for EBC greenstuff which i want to aviod, and a few other makes ive not heard of.

Grrr why did I buy the GT lol

Are green stuff that bad, i wont be doing track days in it, but i do hammer the thing.

My dad had a 130BHP focus with green stuff pads and EBC grooved/drilled discs. Very good wear rate and braking performance.

  Silver Clio 172 Phase 1
Yellow stuff's pretty good and the red stuff ceramic compounds not too bad either, but i would stay away from the greenstuff utter pish!

The only "branded" performance pads i can find for the mk3 are EBC greenstuff, EBC "ultimax" and the DS3000 plus a few other rubbish ones, Id like to try the 3000's but id prefer 2500's, got the greenstuff on atm and theyre rubbishhhhhhhh.

Standard ones, theres not many options disc wise either, only two ive seen are ebc "turbo" discs or zerosixty thingys.

The standard discs aren't designed to work with performance pads. Change the discs, then judge the pads.

Twingo GT is a mk2 clio underneath isnt it?
id have thought it uses mk3 parts, as it does everywhere else.

Have you killed the discs/pads already? Or are you just after an upgrade?

Pads are near enough ready for a change, id say no more than 5mm left. Discs are warped slightly and groved at the edges, and ive boiled the brake fluid. The brakes are pretty poor too, always have been, not great from cold really, and if im on a b-road blasting session they fade pretty badly. They are also noisy. Ive got a lot of work to do on the car come the end of september, new tyres, brakes, brake fluid, suspension setup needs sorting.

59 plate car, covered 10,000 miles yesterday.

Is 5mm not a fair amount of meat for pads? But fair enough if you're not happy with them. The standard Brembo combo may be a slight upgrade, only one way to find out. Why not ring up Renault and ask for the part numbers for the Clio GT & Twingo RS pads/discs?

The guy that deals with parts is an arsehole and i would rarther not speak to him. I have thought of this though, try to cross reference it etc, see what matches. Might go down actually and try my luck.

Have you ever tried to squeeze water from a house brick?

e/

PS. 5mm was me being generous. They are wearing very thin.

Would the standard brembo and Mintex 1144 pads be an okay combo?

Oh and the twingo RS uses bigger discs, you can get Brembo High carbon discs for it.

Well, the GT shares the same pad and disc setup as the 1.6 MK3 auto.

I really hate the man behind the parts desk.

Well going off eurocarparts the mk3 and the twingo gt share the same rear discs, whether or not i trust that im not sure, I would say a GT would have the same brakes as the rest of the Mk3 range fo sho, as the floorpan is shared with the nissan micra, and they all use the same parts.

Those brembo discs linked up ^^ are they just like OEM parts or uprated?

I think they are "Uprated" as in they will perform better. Going to buy a front and rear brake line from Renault and send them off to goodridge so i can get a set of braided lines too.

What are they?

lol ^

They're a brand that make braided brake hoses.

Just get a set of Brembos, braided hoses, 4.1/5.1 fluid and Ferodo pads, you can't go wrong with that setup.

For the rears just get new genuine Renault OEM discs and pads.

You'll notice a big difference.

Im not changing the rears, Set of brembos, as in the Standard brembos ive linked? Im trying to get hold of a set of hoses, buying some dot 4 fluid, and Mintex 1144 pads, as the only ferodo pads available for the 1.6 are ds3000's which i definately dont want.
