Will 16v Brakes go straight onto an RT

  1995 Mondeo Speed Machine

Im after getting Nicks 16v brake setup i.e calipers, discs and pads. I want to know if they will go straight onto an RT. Ive got solid discs at the moment and the braking is a bit sh*te so Ive got upgrade one way or another.

I think Ive read on here before that they are a straight swap but its also worth changing the master Cylinder to match the bigger calipers?? Can anyone tell me if this is true.

Cheers

Rick

We have fitted a set of 16v brakes to a 1.4 rt. The actual caliper is the same as a 16v if you have a Lucas Girling set up so you will not need to change the master cylinder as the piston displacements are the same . The only part you will have to change is the calliper mount, from the hub holding the calliper as the 16v is a bigger dia and has a vented disc.

the 16v calipers on mine were diff to my RTs....just whacked it all across though........did teh master cylinder after as pedal travel was immense.

NOT a bleeding problem.

What master cylinder could you put on a 16v if you had 4-pots fitted, to cut the amount of travel?

Are Lucas Girling Calipers for vented discs as oppossed to solid ones??

And how difficult is it to swap the master cylinder???

Finally I assume from what Nick said, the caliper mount can also be taken from a 16v??

Sorry for all the questions!

the whole caliper will bolt straight on.

changing the master cylinder was done when my engine was out, and not hard....but with it in!!!!!

weird BenR. I have the same pedal travel with the valver calipers.

I bleeded the damn thing till could no more (I got tired of it eheh).

Driven a willy earlier and the pedal travel is the same.

is it really diferent the valver master cylinder from the RT one?

well, as nick said earlier, if you hasd the same caliper to begin with then the piston size will be the same........

but i had smaller pistons in my OE caliper.....and it did travel much further.
