will a 197 head fit a 182 and what benefit does it have?

  182
Hi, my 182 has killed a cam belt and bent the valves, A mate had a 197 head in his shed so it is now sat in my garage, does anyone now if it will fit and will it make it 400bhp or am i just making a monster job for nothing?

  182
Toooooooo serious. No, just because i have been given a free head I wonderd if it was possable. I thought it might save me some money and get me a couple more BHP

It will change you compression ratio, plus I think your need to drill a hole to put a stud in for a pulley at the timing end. Search it the chaps that took over jms used a 197 head for a turbo conversion. Hope this help.

Spot on above, needs a precise hole drilling for the pully and it will lower your CR as the combustion chamber on the head is a fair bit larger.

And did it give you more power or was it too much messing for not enough?

It will give you a few extra bhp but won't really warrant the effort involved to just do that as a modification on it own, as said above one of the main factors is that it lowers your compression ratio considerably so it's ideal for a SC/Turbo conversion.

And it looks nice IMO.
