Will it be written off?

  Tangoed Works
Had some one stuff into me from the rear on saturday. damage as follows, from what I can see;

Boot floor resembles a triangle
Bumper smashed
Drivers rear quarter creased inwards in two places
Exhausts now protrude from the rear by around 7-8 inches
Rear lights smashed
Boot does not lock
Boot creased up
wheel arch liners broken

Car is 05 plate 182 with 51k miles, previously excellent condition. Still drives fine and handles well. Will they write it off?

Cheers

i think probably written off, depends on the insurance company, and who is quoting for the repair from my experience.

AH Jay, what a bugger! Sounds like a write off! :(

Get some pics up fella.

Hope you get it sorted

Matt

if other guy accepts fault his insurer will put you in a car through someone like enterprise, credit hire is the scum of the earth and should be avoided....

If the repair cost is 70% or greater than the book value of the car it will be written off. Your car sounds as though it has a book value of £5,500. So if it costs more that £3,850 then it will be written off.

basically with the damage that clio has on the front, would that be enought to write off my rear end?

That other Clio must have been hit with some force! I was done at about 10-15mph and it did nowhere near that damage, buckeled the floor etc, but couldnt tell form the outside as the bumper popped out.

Gutted about the accident, good look with it all.

couldnt possibly say about yours without seeing pics of it

yeah drove it today, and it has defo lost power. if you give it beans in first its fine, but if you are at say 30mph in 4th, where before it would pull really strongly, it feels flat as a pancake now.

told the garage about this as well

Unlucky with the accident. I thought the Clio pictured above was your car!!

The SMART cars aren't strong, they just don't crumple as much as the usual sized car because they haven't got room to crumple, otherwise it'll be the driver / passenger being crumpled.

You might think this is a good thing, but it means the majority of the force from impact is transfered through the cabin and to the passengers.

Who was the ambulance for?

Sounds like it's new car time to me bud. Sorry to hear about your accident... think of us when you're sunning yourself in the caribbean spending your personal injury claim money... ;)

yeah me and my girlfriend had mad neck pain and me lower back and had to take day off work today, pissed as i got loads to do. oh well, its clean cut at least.

mission is the insurance company said that if the garage say its a write off, they have to get a second opinion which can take up to 5 days. i need my bloody rent a car.

well its gotta be a massive coincidence that we have a black 182 05 plate hit in the rear with the exact same accident details with the owner living in London then!

which insurer is it going through then?

  Tangoed Works
lol, haha big coincidence then dude. must have been the weekend for it!!

I was told by someone today that if you get hit in your car from the back it means that you are not doing something you want to do. I have been thinking about a new car for ages but was going to wait till next april / may.

Mabye this is fate? lol

Doh... good luck with that mate hope it all works out ok :S

The SMART cars aren't strong, they just don't crumple as much as the usual sized car because they haven't got room to crumple, otherwise it'll be the driver / passenger being crumpled.

That's a bit contradictory, SMART cars are very strong, hence why they don't crumple, or rather the safety cell is... and the shape of the front of the safety cell means in a more severe accident the SMART car will seek to ride up and go over the other vehicle.

In terms of the survivability of an accident, the biggest part is played by the pre-tensioners, load-limiters, and airbags... and a lack of deformation of the passenger compartment or intrusion into it by other objects.

It's a bit of a trade-off really, because in e.g. a head-on collision a bigger heavier vehicle will benefit from its larger crumple zone but its weight means its course is harder to alter, whereas a smaller lighter vehicle will tend to allow the energy to be converted into it glancing or spinning off.

Of course despite all this it's a lot healthier to not drive into anything in the first place ;)
