Will this make my exhaust louder?

  mx5
At the moment I have a powerflow stealth backbox, really love the note of it and the sound at low revs, but it just doesnt get much louder when flooring it.

In the next month or so Im planning on going back to have from the cat to the backbox made up in stainless steel, but what effect will this have on the sound if any?

I would like the same note, just louder, are there any other ways to achieve this?

sorry if theyre stupid questions, im new to the whole exhaust malark

Im guessing your on about getting the cat removed and replaced with a straight through steel pipe? thats called a decat mate...

Yeh itl make your exhaust louder and slightly raspier...

it will be loads louder if its just a straight piece of pipe with the current silencers removed!

  mx5
nahh not the decat, Im after adding in the pipe to make it from just a back box into a cat-back. Sorry for poor wording lol

center section with no middle box and a decat will make it louder. I've had powerflow systems on before, one was very good quality but my god was it loud!

If it's just the pipe then I doubt it'll make much difference (if any) Removing silencers will make a difference though.

hmm ok,thanks for the help its just that my renault one is rusting, so probs need to get it changed anyway,

how much should i be expecting to pay for the pipe to be made/fitted? dont wanna be ripped off

  mx5
Also just had a look under the car, where are the other silencers located? are they before the cat? cos behind the cat is just one long pipe to the backbox? Dont wanna be spending tooo much on this, being a student ftl

on your system u got manifold then cat then middle boax then back box

if u remove the middle box it will make ur car louder

  mx5
Im well confused!

is this the middle box or the cat or what?

looks as if u have a straight through already then

if u change that u will have a de-cat system and need to change it mot time

Take it the car is a 1.2, if so i wouldnt recommend de-cating it as i done this to mine and it idles far to eratic. In the end i ended up running a cat-back ashley exhaust system which i purchased of POTN with the original cat it was basically the same set up but with a 2" bore and 2 3.5" tailpipes it was stupid loud but gave a nice note :D.

oh cheers, so if mine doesnt have the middle silencer changing the pipes to stainless steel wont rly make a difference? still, it will probs be cheaper than getting a new one from renault lol

Hi Mate, i had a backbox fitted first (powerflow) then went back and had a stainless pipe from cat-back and it made very little difference sound and performance wise, the only thing i noticed is it pops occasionally going from first to second gear:rasp:

Cost me £50 all in but i know the garage owner quite well

Oh and i have a 1.2 16v

Hope this helps!

I had a bean can exhaust and no other silencers apart from that one and it sounded beasty tbh. It was too savage for road use as it boomed which is a compromise if you want it loud...

I have a cat back system on mine which only cost round £190 off ebay. Its rather loud but has a nice note to it.

It pops in nearly every gear when changing up and even down on occasions. i will try and get a video up of it and a possible link for ebay. It comes with a life time warranty also and was a doddle to fit.

Mate, the part your meaning is called the centre section. (between cat and back box)

Not sure if your car had a middle silencer or not when the car rolled out the factory.

The 1.2's don't come with middle silencers. just cat and back box
