williams help needed asap

hi

been looking a williams 3 today with my mate whos been after one for ages.

The only thing amiss is there seems to be a droning noise when driving. it is there all the time and the magnitude of such is proportional to the speed. It is there all the time even when you slip it out of gear. sound like a loud tyre noise but its not. all i can think of is wheel bearings or driveshaft bearings, anyone any other ideas. Hes really keen, just needs his mind putting to rest.

if it is wheel or shaft bearings is it expensive.

many thanks for any replies.

Nah, not expensive and with the help of a Haynes manual someone with a bit of experience should be able to replace both - first time tho? id take it to a garage - not much - £200 i rekon.

Wheel bearing.

Not hard to replace, easier if you take the hub off and get the bearing pressed in.

£80 average to replace a front wheel bearing - the noise will get better/worse as you steer towards/away from the offending bearing.

BTW - make sure you get the bearing pressed in with the right Renault tool. Ive had replacements fail within 10,000 miles when not done like this.
