  Astra SRI/ Hornet
my heart says williams my head says ph1. how can i decide? always wanted a williams, love the looks and the rareness of them but they have rust issues and i do like to drive hard. been looking for abit now and no decent williams has come up but just saw gaz's ph1 and got me thinking.

what would cs do? brown bear ill allow your opinion as i know youve owned a ph1 plus 182 etc.

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
I would head for a PH1--- If you can find a nice example & make a few tweaks to it without spending a lot of money you will have a car that actually doesnt look bad at all- certainly not that dated-

Whilst the Williams has almost classic status ( williams 1- the one you want) I couldnt go that far back into time---- It would be like driving an Escort Cosworth now-- You know everyone loved them when they came out, however that was the 80's & 90's.....

insurance really isnt an issue. i just would love to own something abit special again like my 205gti was.

  williams and trophy
williams all day tbh.........like you....i like to drive mine hard......only thing to let me down was the gearbox....which is the same on a ph1 anyway.....and the shitty chocolate kent cams.........never again.

I would have a williams but only if i could find a nice enough example. There are some real rot boxes out there.

No doubt the Williams is probably the better drivers car. But it is an older car, so interior etc feels like a different era. Both could potentially be a money pit, but I always feel safer with the newer option in that respect.
Of all the 1*2's I owned, the ph1 was my favourite all things considered. The trophy was the better drive, but the ph1 is rawer and more fun.
As a mk3 owner, I'm now obliged to point out that all prev generations are common chav-wagons. Lol.

  williams and trophy
id disagree there tbh. the williams seats are probably the comfiest seats in the whole of the clio range. as standard. the dash etc, yes looks a little dated now, but then at least theres less to go wrong, we all know what french electrics are like......

Would you not say the things ya like about the ph1 being raw would be even better in the Williams brownbear?

If your after special i'd go for the Williams. I loved my ph1 though, epic cars tbh. You can't go wrong with either.

Id go ph1 mate you can pick them up really cheap if your willing to put in abit of effort you can have a lovely example cheaply. Only williams i have seen that i would want are alot more expensive than ph1s

If you have unlimted money and your handy with spanners get a williams
If you have a smaller budget get a well looked after ph1
If you have an even smaller budget and your handy spanners get a dog ph1

If you want special, nothing comes close to a williams imo. (In terms of hot hatch status)

Williams, looks better and you only live once, there will be plenty of time in however many years to go and buy a phase 1 if you still want 1, but time is runnng out for the williams

That's the thing I don't long for a ph1, I've had a 172 and 182 already. But there capable and I know I'd like it better than any another fast hatch. The Williams is a legend, I don't expect it to blow my mind just the fact of owning 1 would be great.

  225 Cup & Williams
Tell me about it mate i bought mine from a guy in lincoln was 700 mile round trip to get it worth it though.

How much you pay if ya don't mind me asking? You had any rust to sort? There isn't many 1's for sale, will probs be a 2 for me as they have the electric pack but not the sun roof and abs of the 3.

  225 Cup & Williams
Nah dont mind atall mate. I paid £1000 did have a few things wrong with it electrical wise but that was due to the last owner fitting a sound system and not putting in the right fuses etc rust wise theres not alot tbh drivers side wing is rotten which is quite common if not maintained and theres some surface rust on the drivers sill apart from that it's a solid little motor i'm getting mine resprayed as it's covered in stone chips and scratches should look mint when it's done.

Good price that for a 1. My budgets upto 2k. I have a mate who knows mk1's who can help me if any arches need doing or engine work which is helpful. Got any pics of it?

  225 Cup & Williams

only electric extra the 2 has over the 1 is the wingmirrors, thats it

  Clio 172 ph2
I go for ph1. Williams are great classic cars but too old and fragile for thrashing around everyday, more of a weekend toy

182 has gone dude. Been made redundant so needed the cash to pay it off. Obviously I still need a car to get around especially to a new job.

  Astra SRI/ Hornet
I've already had 2 peugeots- 205gti and 106gti. I'd only have a rallye and they ain't that cheap or as special as a Williams.

  White clique
Is this going to be for a main car or a run about / second car? If second then maybe a Williams for a laugh, but what ever way you try to gloss it up, the Williams is just a rusty old shed now. You'll pay through the nose for a decent example.

Just checked PH they are affordable, look good in White aswell. s**t seats and steering wheel like. May do sone homework on them.

Seats are very, very comfortable. The wheel looks shite, but it's a good size! Nothing for me matches the LOOS in the 306!

Everyday car. People who own them reakon there as reliable as any other oldish car. I lived with a 205gti for a year and I don't think anything can be as bad as that. Lol

I drove a normal 306 and that seemed really grippy but I like abit of liveliness from the rear. Are the rallyes just more grip or lively like a 172cup?

Lots of grip, but incredibly tail happy. But it's controllable and smooth. Once used to it, no other modern fwd car will give you the same feeling.
