Williams or Seat Ibiza Cupra

The missus is looking to buy a new car due to her getting a new job. She likes the Ibiza Cupra in Yellow but also likes the Williams, the question is.... which one should she get ?

Any other suggestions in a similar mould ?

Best let her go drive em both, my guess is not all ladys will enjoy the heaviest clutch in the world and the somewhat heavyhanded steering found on the williams

  Fiat Coupe 20v turbo

Cupra will cost less to maintain but a Williams will hold its value better. Test drive a couple and see what she likes.

  Silver Fabia vRS

I test drove an Ibiza Cupra a couple of weeks ago and found the standard suspension really hard and not that brilliant. Over all though it was a nice car.

more expensive than a turbod car? Nah, the parts have been around, if you shop around you can get bits really cheap. Im getting front and rear discs and pagid fast road pads for just over a ton shortly, labour seems to be the main cost on them as some jobs take longer cos of the lack of space. Dont let servicing n crap like that put you off tho, she obviously likes quick cars, so have a drive. Make sure you test the Willy on a-b roads tho, then you will see what all the fuss is about ;).

To be honest, she is not really into fast cars but she likes the look of the 2 cars in question. It allows me to have a go then tho ! LOL !

Id say the Cupra. More expensive to run in some way than the Williams but repairing the williams can be expensive.

The turbo engine will cost more in fuel and insuracne probably.

What Cupra is it - The 2.0 old style or the 1.8T newer style?

I would take the Williams over the 2.0 old style - but the newer 1.8T although not a great hot hatch will suit her better than the Williams.

It is the new shape 1.8 20v Turbo.

I am thinking she will be better suited to the newer shaped Ibiza too to be honest 007. I would love her to get a Williams but the Ibiza are nice too.

Insurance is pretty good for her too, around £700 FC and that is with no NCD at the moment too, she is 26 so that obviously helps.

It sounds as if your lady wants a car use to go to, from and for work purposes.

As much as the Williams is unquestionably a better hot hatch than the Ibiza Cupra, it might not be the best bet for this sort of use. Dont get me wrong - my Willy is - no joke - more reliable than my parents new Volvos. Its never let me down, is mint and is a buzzing drive.

Mechanically and cosmetically, a 100% Williams comes at the behest of a generous wallet and Id say youd be looking at a few £200-500 bills every year to keep it tip top. The Willy may be relatively cheap to buy and may hardly depreciate, but it will hit your cashflow from time to time if youre on an average wage.

Youll also find that, like any older car, little niggles like bulbs and switches expire and can take a little effort to find. Thats fine if youre used to it or actually enjoy getting handy, but its not usually what people want. I also reckon that the Willy is an impractical car in terms of worrying where to park it and keeping it mint in day-to-day use.

Mind you, Im not convinced that a SEAT Cupra will be considerably better by any of these measures. The only way to access trouble-free motoring is to buy an excellent condition car with a warranty!

If you want to have a look at a Williams, mine will be at the meet in Cardiff on Sunday.

Right, she has now had a change of mind (bloody women) and she likes the 106s so I suggested a GTi or Quicksilver.

Has anybody got any links to any good Pug 106 sites where I can get some photos to send to her ?

Cheers,

Dai

Wouldnt want my girlfriend in a Williams or 106, not good in a crash! Id say the Seat is a much better all round proposition, dull to drive but less to worry about.

She is looking at the Quicksilver now, the 1.4 model. She likes them so will be looking to get one in the next month or so.

She drives a 106 now so there isnt any difference except this one will be newer with airbag, etc.

I still say Williams.

Why have second/third/fourth etc.. best?

;)
Mate, she is woman ! All she cares about is if it looks nice, she doesnt care about speed at all. I wish she would get a Williams but she wants a newer car and the Ibiza may be a little too expensive and the 106 fits the bill of what she wants.

The 106 sounds as if it will fit the bill a lot better - a Williams would be a bit of an extreme car which wouldnt be fully appreciated by the sound of things!
