I'm not sure on that one!, the people that would be able to name most of the above would know the Williams for sure. Though I doubt the Valver would be mentioned.

Yep,pretty close Mark. Youve got the edge though Im big enough to admit that! I think im pretty even with Omar and Pauls 182's in drags though,their both Boggo standard and I have exhaust filter mods and no rear seats,so I guess that works out rite!

These threads make me laugh so much. All the Williams boys pop out of the woodwork to stick their 2 pence in. How about contributing to the rest of the forum lads instead of just the threads with "williams" in the title. Quite Franky these "182 vs williams" etc type threads always end the same way and always get the same reponses from exactly the same people who will argue the toss until they are blue in the face.

GET A LIFE FFS!

They are both quick cars and I'd be more than happy owning either - one costs twice as much as the other but then you get what you pay for regarding safety, toys, cabin refinement etc etc etc.

a mk1 thread on this site is almost as rare as an unmolested example of a williams, unmolested meaning bodywork as well as mechanically, so when one gets brought up, it gives the mk1 owners something relevant to say as it concerns their cars.

we can all only speak from experience. and in my experience, only 1 new shape clio has given me a beating....step forward chris..;)

so i deduce from my experimentations in my car...that it IS faster than a 172, even with no mods. it IS slightly quicker than a 182, with wrong head but with raised limiter, but it gets beaten by a more tuned cup, with wrong head/raised limiter.

The biggest difference with thes cars is the driver, good driver will beat a bad driver which ever Renaultsport car hes driving V6 included):approve:

Rsport are twice the price as Williams as they tend to have half the miles and be half as new again. Its age and condition not performance as you could just go and buy an EVO 4 or M3 (E36) for 8k and have done with it...

Most willies are over 10 years old, not many good ones about. As result of them being old and more unreliabe i would say that people who own Williams now are more hard core and drive that bit faster...this should be mistaken for the car being faster..

He's exactly right, a newer renaultsport driver is definately not going to want to crash his car, and will alter his driving accordingly. A mk1 s**t heap owner knows his car is next to worthless, so will go balls out everywhere ;)

A perfect example is when Martin rolled his hybrid. Sure he's an excellent driver, no one will deny him that, but if he owned a £12k trophy I very much doubt that he would be driving it in the same way that he drives his valver.

The car was stripped out to f**k anyway and had no dash! He can probly get it back on the road for £500 with no insurance involved etc, whereas if it was a trophy it would be a £12k pride and joy write off. Hence the reason the mk1 boys drive quickly...

Silly statement most accidents are when someone else crashes into you...SO SAFETY IS A BIG FACTOR

If i was in a crash the i would rather be in a 1*2 than a Williams..

Im sure some drivers of the new R-Sports are a little more careful on the roads and dont drive as fast. They may be young, its a company car or other factors. That no bad thing.

Driving to fast on the road is not what its all about..! Get it on track if you want to do that..

As said the STIG would get the R-Sport round the TG test track quicker than a Williams..

My Mk1 is arguably worth more then your 172, is certainly quicker, handles far better and stops quicker:rasp:

i drive a williams 1. i dont want to crash it. 12k would go some way to replacing mine, but i dont think it would cover the costs.lol

i still drive it like a loon, i have also got a newer shape clio, which i drive even harder, why?? cos its s**t slow and doesnt handle very well. put them together, and the untrained eye would say the newer car would be worth the most simply due to its age.

if martin had a trophy. i think its fair to say that the car would in fact be getting stripped. its his thing. like adding power is mine.

Williams engine, gearbox, full williams interior, only missing the williams stickers and wide track but that would mean it would beat the 182 by an even bigger margin once the wide track is fitted.......must be even more embarressing heh?

the engine alone is worth more than that.......


most of my races have been on the strip. or under supervised conditions on private roads.... some on track.

i didnt say i had an experienced arse ;). i said ' if u mk2 boys are too scared to drive the sporty clios youv spent all ur co. car budget on....etc etc.'

inexperienced....get it to a track n practise....oh no...forgot...they worth 12k....u dont wanna tempt fate n throw em at a corner hard...theyl probably crash........arse

fact is if you want something rawer than the newer clios get a vlaver/williams. if you want something more refined for air con etc get a 172/182.

these mk1 drivers really have a chip on thewir shoulders! lol ;)

if you tried to sell your engine would you get 3-4k for it? that seems a lot to me, but i don't know a lot about the mk1's.

back on topic i'd say a williams and a 182 are on par, my old williams was on par with a Trophy round Donnington with little mods. As For hybrids, mine would obviously leave 182's and cups for dead but mines not exactly std.... lol
