wireless problems with iBook G4

I know some of you aren't mac fans, nether am I now. But I've taken the plunge into wireless.

Purchased a Netgear DG834G v2 wireless modem and a apple airport extreme card for my iBook. Put it all together set up my modem through the PC (PC using same modem). Set up wireless or so I thought, got a signal when iBook is next to modem. But if I step away from the modem my signal drops a lot and lose connection by wireless.

Can someone help me please before I throw this piece of sh*t mac out the window!!!

Sounds odd, I am glad I went with the Airport Extreme, plugged it in and it just worked!

So the the Laptop works when its right next to the router? Move it away and there is no signal. Is there any setting for how much of a range (signal strength) is on the router?

Have you ran the airport set up assistant on your mac?

Airport extreme is fantastic... best thing by far. Plugged it into the wall, listening to my music wirelessly, printing wirelessly and internet wireless, on all the macs and pc's in the household. didnt even read intructions...

Macs rule.

I've ran the assistant, all worked ok. I've handed it all over to a I.T. geezer at work to sort out. Fingers crossed.

Right update on this.

The guy at work has checked out my Netgear wireless modem to his PC and PSP etc all working ok (cracking signal). Got it back home, connected it to my iBook got full signal and internet connection when 1ft away from the modem. Go into another room and my signal goes down to about a 1/4 with no internet connection, downstairs is a no no.

Really getting peeeed off with this now. There is a problem with my iBook + airport extreme card (the card is plugged in fully). There are no settings in 'internet connection' menu on the mac?

Can anyone help me?

Could just be the adapter in the iBook doesn't like the netgear router? Try getting hold of another router and giving that a go.
