Wiring help - Electric Window Switches

  Cam'd Arctic FF 182
I'm trying to swap out my Ph1 Grande interior for the interior of a 182, I've got all the seats and rear 1/4 cards in nicely but the grab handles I was supplied with (which were out of a standard Ph2 interior) aren't compatible with the looms I've got.

I've done some testing with a multimeter but I'm still now 100% about how to splice together the old & new looms.

I'll try to summarise what I've found below but I'm sorry if it doesn't quite make sense:
oldn.jpg

Old loom (tested when connected in the car):

Driver's door controls:
+ Driver window switch
Purple: Driver window up (goes from 0V to +14V)
Black: Ground??
Yellow: Constant +14V
Thin Blue: ???
Brown: Driver window down (goes from 0V to +14V)

+ Passenger window switch
Thin Blue: ???
Brown: Passenger window up (goes from +14V to 0V)
Yellow: Constant +14V
Black: Ground??
Yellow: Constant +14V
White: Passenger window down (goes from +14V to 0V)

Passenger's door control:
Grey: Passenger Switch Down (goes from +14V to 0V)
White: Driver Switch Down (goes from +14V to 0V)
Black: Ground??
Purple 1: Driver Switch Up (goes from +14V to 0V)
Purple 2: Passenger Switch Up (goes from +14V to 0V)
Thin Blue: ???

My new driver's switches appear to have a different pin configuration altogether:

Driver door control:
Thin orange
Thin purple
Thin blue
Thick black/orange
Thick white/orange
Thick grey/orange

Passenger door control:
Thin blue
grey/orange
cream/orange
white/orange
black/orange
purple/orange

Anyone done this before?? :S

Oh dear god, memories, I can tell you all, as I've done the same thing, but you'll have to give me a while to think about it/read.

Only thing I couldnt get, was the drivers side control to do the passenger side window.

Right, I can tell you how to wire them up to get them both working, but I have no idea how to get the passenger switch on the drivers side to work aswell I'm afraid.

Personally, other than ground and constant live, I use all new wiring....

Now, I'm calling pin 1, the one nearest the bottom of this image, so at the "window down" end, I hope that makes sense.

The pins to control a window go as follows....

1 Switch illumination

2 Goes off when "up" is pressed

3 12v ignition live

4 earth

5 12v ignition live

6 Goes off when "down" is pressed

I could explain how the switch works but it'd take me a while and its not too necessary....

Now you know whats what you then do the following:

  • Locate the ground, earth and the two wires that go straight to the motor from the existing switch
  • Split the 12v live into 3 seperate wires using some kind of splitter (easy enough)
  • Connect the above lives to pins 1,3,5 (this creates two lives and the illumination)
  • Connect the earth
  • Connect the two wires that go straight to the motor to pins 2+6
  • Test wether up and down are the correct way around, if not, swap 2+6
This only leaves you with one issue, its a tiny one, but the switches are always illuminated, not just wheen you turn on the car's lights.

Hope this helps, any questions, just ask.

Now I've helped you, your turn.... ;)

You've made it sound as though you're fitting ph2 182 door cards to your ph1 (including fronts)???

If so, have you tested the fronts yet? As I've always been led to believe the ph2 doorcards do not fit the ph1 dash, please let me know how you get on, very interested.

Please dont use choc boxes to join the wires! Use solder and heatshrink. Its the only way to do it correctly.
