would never ever buy another clio :(

You get good ones and bad ones unfortunately.

Name a manufacturer and I'll know someone who's had a lemon. (apart from Lexus, never known anyone have a duff lexus!)

My first RS was a lemon but trading in 2 weeks after buying it for a 182 helped, no issues so far!

I can name a duff Lexus, so believe thats connect 4

My old 172 turned out to be a very expensive 9 months.
In that 9 months, its the most ive spent on maintenence than in the rest of my 4 and a half years of driving, but I still loved the car to bits.

MCR always use that angle & area of their showroom for their pics-
They do have a fair few Clios, as do DS cars & all vehicles

Yes, in 15 months of ownership it's needed a new steering rack due to a leak and a new cat to pass MOT.

Apart from that is been faultless (Touch wood!)

Yeah when i got mine there was a choice of 3 182's, some tasty R32's and Focus RS's. The cars seemed good but thats as far as i'll go...

My old 172 broke whenever it we started, full head rebuild etc.

My 182 however, nearly 6 and done 46k it's had a headlight washer and rear calipa.

1.2 - coil pack needed replaced
182 - Sweet as a nut
200 - 1 day of ownership I had abs & esp warning. It just needed a simple brake light connection tightening but still.. 1 day FLOL.

Bought mine from DS cars, was a very decent car at a decent price!
Also bought my R26 from allvehicles and that was perfect!

My dads pal works for lexus specialist and he says the amount that come in for blown engines is astronomical

In 2 yrs 3 months I've had the management light come on a few times and also, a, er... no, that's it. If you look after them they tend to be OK. Only thing that would stop me getting another is insurance. I can afford it but I don't like being ripped off. It's outrageous bearing in mind I'm an old git with loads of no claims and only one ticket - back in 1997! 50% up last year and looks like 50% or more again this year. How about this - to insure my 182 now it's looking like £520 next renewal, with a value of £5K... to insure a Ferrari 328, £28K value, exactly the same quote details, it's £575. No joke. If I had a garage I'd know which I'd have.

Gear box
Clutch
Driveshafts
Horn x 3 rofl
Arch liners
Lambda sensors.
power steering (being fixed now)
+ other things i forget

Around £2250 in repairs, including labour and guenuine renault parts.
Awesome car when it works though but the time has come to trade it in.

My mate's wife had an IS220 diesel as a compnay car and trust me it was the biggest load of crap ever, four turbochargers (three in one year), two cylinder heads (in one year.)
She's now been lumbered with an auto Saab 93 Aero.

Hmmmm...

New Gearbox and Clutch, 4 new tyres, MOT and Tax!!

Thought as much, you can't put tyres, MOT and tax into reliablilty costs!!

"My 182 is so unreliable, i have to service it every 12k, mot and tax it once a year, shambles, and sometimes the tyres even wear out, shocking!"

in 3 years:-

Supplied with knackered battery (replaced by AA for £35)
Dropped the back box (£70)
which led to the centre pipe going wayward (£50)
then the aux-belt / Alternator incident (AA picked up £400 of costs, leaving just £95 to pay for a new alternator, aux belt and the labour)

of course, there's the tyres, brakes etc. but, well, that's par for the course on any car

^^^ what happened with the cambelt? Was it overdue?

Nope, cambelt was fine.

2 years beforehand I had renault change the belts, tensioners and whatnot, but the aux belt slipped, pulled on the alternator, tore it from it's mounts.
because of this there was no water pump and no electric.
so I wind up on the hard shoulder, bonnet-up, waiting for the AA. AA and the garage both advised that the belts hadn't been done correctly. Did think of forcing the matter with the garage but it had been 2 years in history so probably would have been ignored.

Shitter that! Would have bet on Renault not doing it properly to.

The insurance on RS's is ridiculous.... I got quoted the same amount for 2005 plate audi s4 as I did for my Clio.

Why are people complaining about tyres and the likes??? Every car in the whole world needs those.

This forum never ceases to amaze me sometimes.

Re: would never buy a clio again :(

Yep, so i sold it.

Still bought another though.

All makes and models of cars have bad examples and good ones. Luck of the draw.

Re: would never buy a clio again :(

Yep, but I still keep repairing it, basicaly part of owning a French car really, last thing is want to do is sell it though as I love it :D

Re: would never buy a clio again :(

The Sport models tend to be less problematic than normal model versions (apparently)

Re: would never buy a clio again :(

^ Hmm, i pity the non sport owner then. My alternator and PAS pump both gave up in the last 6 months. Have also changed had the aux belt and idler/tensioner too.

Still wouldn't sell it though.

Yep. Loved my old LS400, was a really great wafting barge. Ran sweet as a nut, even after it was run dry and the headgaskets were fried (not by me, incidently)
