Would you buy a Renault again?

  Renault Clio 1.2
hi guys, just wanted some answers really, ive had my clio for about a year and a half, done about 60,000 miles, its a 1.2, not a sport. But had nothing but problems with it, lamder sensors playin up, coil pack went and brakeswitch all in the past year, which tbh has hacked me off a lot.

Personally after this experience of my car, and this car being my first car i wouldnt go french again, just think if your going to get a car, get a reliable one whether that be german, american, wateva just not renault. what do you guys think?

feel free to criticize, cheers dave.

How much did they cost? Probs £150 worth of parts there if that,

oh yes mate dont get me wrong, financially it isnt too much of a smack in the mouth but its just fact these few things went wrong and caused me to get it down the garage.

i would....think the rep they have is alot worse than they deserve. i've had a few decent cars, but i think i like the clio more than any of the others. its got personality!

on my 2nd clio, first one the only thing i had to change was the clutch, wear and tear
and this one i've had for almost 2 years and i've only needed to change the battery.

not major problems

but i will be having a 3rd clio soon if that answers your question lol

yes, but only if it were a better drive/ownership proposition than others of similar age/type/value

sounds as though you've been unlucky, but that's all part&parcel of owning a car

I'm on my third Clio, love them to bits and will be buying another definately, of the V6 variety.

I've had my 1.2 16v for a year and six months. Bought with 15k on the clock, currently 48k. Quite pleased with my first Renault muchos better than the 2 Polo's! I'd probably consider definitely a RS.

no lol, best car iv owned but the parts are made of choclate :( gotta be m power next :D

to be fair with mine, the lad that had it before had more than his share of problems, but since i've had it she's been fine. i obviously treat her well.

agree with the comments about standard french cars not RS's

  172 Cup, AX trackbeast.
I've had plenty of French tackle (oo-er!). It's old Peugeots you need to worry about. I had probably the most troublesome 405 Mi16x4 in the country, but still loved it. I'd have another any day of the week.

As for a Clio, I don't know if I'd get another. Not because it's been any trouble, it's been the most reliable car I've owned, barring my Astra GTE, but because I don't know where I'd go from a 172 Cup. A Trophy, maybe.

I'd have an R26R if it was given to me.

I would only have a renaultsport again aswell.

I tink the rattles and squeaks make the car have charachter. It is just the ridiculous stealer prices that piss me off. Thank God for the few good specialists out there.

Ive had 3 RS's and havent had any major problems, silly things like Lambda + rear dampers. In 3 years all my mates with BMW's have had alot more problems.

I dont see it as an issue. I felt like a change and went for a Veedub, sitting in a decent german car is alot nicer. But browsing the GTi forum they are plagued with little errors too.

If the RS 200 is a decent car i woudl own one again.

  Clio 182FF
My first Clio that I had from new had many problems and yes it was annoying, but you know what - Renault were actually very good about sorting everything quickly and without fuss. They even gave me my first service for free when it came around.

My second Clio which I also had from new has never missed a beat so I think it goes to show that no matter what you buy you will always get a rogue.

Lets just hope my 182 will be a good one. So the short of it - yeah I would buy a Renault again.

  Nissan 350z
Haha, na, there was a shitty car in between while I sorted out finances and saved to buy another nice car without any finance.

I'm considering going back to the dark side. I loved my 172 and spending loooads on it (regret now how to be honest lol). But I'm thinking of getting a BG 182, getting some coilovers and some white, 15" speedline 2118s. My astra drinks fuel!

My 172 is actually the most unreliable car i ve ever owned, however its so good to drive I will continue to plough money in to it, to be fair i ve only had a few minor issues in it accross 6k, my 1.2 on the other hand was faultless.
I work for a main dealer and 80% of the vehicles we have in with major problems/ diagnostic work (some sent in by specialists!) have one thing in common -no service history/ zero maintenance. Look after it and it will look after you.

I plan on another Clio as my next car of the ph1 172 variety.

Will only consider cars with FSH and Belts done within 2 years though. You've got to be fussy and if your not then you will have problems.

The amount of my mates that have never had their car serviced is unreal tbh, they either just don't even think about having it done or have no interest in cars atall so refuse to waste money on it.

ive had two french cars now, i like them for some reason and id defo have a renault again yeah! unfortunatly there are some bad examples out there but thats the way cars are i guess - they do break!

  Black 197
Yes but on Renault Sport Range

Worked for a breakdown company a couple of years back and i was suprised at how many expensive cars break more often than cheaper priced cars.. In the year i worked for them i hardly did any renaults and was mostly funny enough Megs with that stupid keyless card ( dirt and grime build up ), but the likes of Merc and BMW were forever Breaking down with all sorts of problems...

Every manufacturer has problematic cars i suppose its just one of those things

  Monaco RS Clio 172
yes - pure fun factor of my 172 compared to previous cars wins it for me. although it is becoming a VERY expensive thing to maintain as the miles push on. :(

  C63 AMG
My next car will be a new car and be purchased next year. Here's what's on offer: Ford Focus RS, Megane 250, Clio 200, Mito GTA, Mini Cooper S Works and at a push Evo X or Impreza STI.

The range in prices is around £12,000 (inc some options) - Clio 200 being £16,000ish and the Exo X being £28,000ish.

Given these choices and the vulgarity of the new Renaultsport range I think I will not be purchasing a Renault again (certainly not a new one).

I'll keep the Trophy and buy a Focus RS probably - a far, far better car than the Megane 250; I'll put money on it beating the Megane in all magazine tests.

i would not let that put you off,
i was a FORD man through and through, always have been, but the service you get from them is crap compared with Renault, i bought brand new Ford Fiesta 3 years ago, had nothing but trouble with it, only after 100 miles, FORDS were shite in dealing with it, would not even give me a FREE car whilst they had it for 4 weeks!
So would not few probs put you off..... When cars go wrong all the time, time to get rid of it, buy a different one....

  Hippys bus of LOVE !!!
I said I'd never ever buy another Renault after my 172 caught fire and self combusted after three months ownership. Search Hippychick you'll find out how poor the customer service dept were then etc.

I then owned a couple of VAG cars, a Leon Cupra R and a Skoda Vrs and they were in a different league altogether...

I now own, but don't drive a Grande Espace (the daddy of all people carriers).

I drive and have driven a number of pool cars from Renault over the last 5 weeks whilst Renault source and replace parts after a battery failure taking out the starter motor and now as it transpires the water cooled altinator.

Would I buy Renault again

NOT ON YOUR LIFE
