Wrong plug sequence?

Changed the spark plugs today on the 182. Did it the safe way (i.e. one at once) and worked from right to left.

With the inlet housing off, the first plug had '4' written on the rubber. Next onto '3' and yet the next said '1'? :S

Sure enough, the last plug to be changed said '2'. Is this a common Frenchie c0ckup or something unique to mine - lol!?

I also noticed on the butterfly valve at the end of the inlet manifold (connected to the feed from the air filter) was really quite dirty. I cleaned that up of surface crap too.

Naturally, changing the plugs alone gave me an extra 18bhp. I was hoping for at least 25 though. ;)

saw the same thing just this morning on a customers car, hadn't made a difference to running though, but the ignition runs a paired batch fire system.

It's weird, ain't it? I would have been concerned if I pull all four plugs out at together, but one-at-once meant that they had to be numbered wrong. Bloody Frenchies. ;)

I trace them end to end every time now. It's even weirder that no1 is flywheel end on french cars, when it's belt end on pretty much everything else in existence lol
