your all shiting me up now..

  Yozza'd Titanium 182
Its the cambelt, the car has done exactlly 50000 miles.

Its a 51 reg 1.6 16v and i no absolutly nothing about the cambelt.

Everyone on here seems to be advising to get it changed, whichisnice of you but it quite expensive and i dont want to spend my hard earned money on... something i dont even no off.

I dont want you to all have another pop at me but could you give me some pointers, experiance, prices, about cambelts

Thanks

£300+ I reckon.

But if it breaks because you've not had it renewed, all the pistons will smash into the valves, meaning you may need a new engine or a rebuild, which will be decidedly more than £300+...

It's expensive, yes, but it's preventative maintenance!

My old dear has a 1.2 8v and clio rt, her cambelt snapped, bent valves damaged pistons and god knows what else end result was a £1300 bill! Best to get it done!

Re: your all s**ting me up now..

I thought it was about 75k you were ment to replace it.

50k or 5 years. He's on both.

is it 50k or 5 years for a 1.2 8v?

Its 72k or 5 years, will be the same for a 1.2 8v chris.

Assuming it hasn't been changed then its the original cambelt which has done well lasting 7 years!

I would imagine going to a specialist you'd be talking £300-400 or so, you don't want to take it to any old garage as they need the correct locking tools to do a proper job. And you want the cambelt and auxbelt changing, with idlers and tensioners.

Just got mine done, 1.6 with aircon on a 51 plate.
Cost me £200 including tensioner.

I paid £160! Just get it done, because I garantee when it goes you'll be back again saying your cambelt has broke and moaning about the bill.

If you don't know anything about cambelts have a read of this and will give you some information about why cars have one...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambelt

As said above, if it breaks the results can be very expensive. My father inlaws just broke on his 307 and has cost over two grand in repairs. It also broke when he was in the fast lane of the motorway which, if it hadn't been 4 in the morning or something silly, could have been very nasty.

If you can't afford routine maintenance on the car you shouldn't have bought it in the first place.

Get it done now. If it was me i'd have got the place I bought the car from to do it for the price i'd paid.

Guy I used to work with had the same model as yours 40000 on the clock, belt snapped, cost him £400 to get fixed,

just got a quote for the work on my old fiesta zetec i'm selling, £145 for belt and tensioner change, depends on where you get the work done that's from just my local garage.
