Your Favorite/worst Racing Sim?

  Not a 320d
So theres plenty to choose from.

My favorite has to Be Forza 2, although the improvements on forza 3 and 4 or whatever were on now are pretty good. Just something about Forza 2, little things, the boost guages, delay when changing gear, decent sound (For a game) and the whole engine swapping thing. Not sure how realistic the physics was but it was certainly fun to play. Was the first racing game id played since Grand Turismos 3 and was a refreshing change. The new ones seem very different.

GT5 is my worst. I wont even go into the details but the food blender engine sounds and instant gear changes in the shitter cars really winds me up.

go.

This thread will no doubt contain.

1.Bickering between those who own a PS3 or xbox fighting over Forza/GT5 in an attempt to make themselves feel better about the console they bought even if they don't believe what they're saying.
2.People passing comment on games they've never played in order to say their favorite is the best.
3.PC owners coming in to say all console racers are utter pish.

Little bit bitter aren't we? :rasp:

Either Vroom or No Second Prize for the Atari ST.

Loved the early GT games for the PS1/PS2. Was bitterly disappointed with GT5 though. Never played Forza but if it's more like the early GT games than GT5 I'm sure it pisses on GT5 from a great height.

Quite enjoying NFS Shift2 actually. Bit of modding, bit of pretty-ness and a fun game which is most important.

To call it a sim is like calling CoD a war sim. Sure it tries to be a bit realistic and it's certainly not Outrun but when you play a proper racing sim (GTR, Race, rFactor with the right mods, CARS and iRacing) you realise that Forza and GT5 just aren't sims. They are arcade games which have the elements of sim racers in there. Call it Arsim or Simcade.

All imo of course

In answer to the question GTR Evolution is my favourite, Live for Speed being my least. The question should be "what is your favourite/worst racing game"

It's in the sim genre, the fact you don't feel it's a very good/accurate one is besides the point tbh. GT5's lack of tyre pressure adjustment (unless an update has changed it since the last time I played it) would make me concerned about it's wanting to be seen as a sim given that pressures are a basic yet very important aspect of car set up.

  Evo 5 RS
oooo tough one, kind of.

F1 2011, with a proper setup, i.e 3 flat panels, the chair and the Ferrari Thrustmaster replica ...by FAR. I don't actually own the kit as it's ridiculous to setup but having used it, it's immense.

worst would have to be GT5, it's dull, boring and lacks proper customisation and feedback IMO is sloppy.

favorite racing GAME is Forza 3/4. Months of fun

TBH for me a PROPER sim doesn't come into unless you've gone the full hog with equipment. But as far as the Xbox/PS3 war goes

GT5 is NOT a sim, it's terrible

Forza doesn't try to be, and it's great

End :)

iRacing has to be the best just for the attention to detail and f1 2011 is the worst

see what you are both saying

but something like GTR2 is miles ahead of of Forza :rasp: (and many years older ;))

Probably GTR2 for me (as being the favourite). They just got so much right for the time when the graphics didn't look particularly dated. Tip-toeing a Porker GT2 around Donington Park, knowing that you're shaving little tenths off here and there on your times, is pure brilliance. Forza 4 is simply a good racing game. It won't make you the next Hamilton - and I don't think for one minute it's supposed to. But as a fun and entertaining racing game, it is very good.

Worst? The original Need 4 Speed on the PC - circa 1994. Purely because the amount of effort that me and the lads at uni tried to out-do each other, time wise! Knowing that if you cocked up just one corner, you weren't going to beat their time. Argh! ;)

Getting back into GT5 of late. Not so much the racing, as the ai is crap, but just general time trialling, trying to improve handling / messing about.

Own both GT legends and GTR2 on PC with Logitec Pro force feedback wheel. Most realistic sim I own. Infant after my last track day at Donington I fired the game up a day later and was amazed how accurate some parts of that game are. GT legends and old Escorts or BMW Csl = immense fun:)

The best is the Sega GT game that was out for the original Xbox, f**king amazing for its time.

The worst, any of ps1 F1 games.

Best is Live For Speed - little else beats it for feel and physics.

Worst is NFS. Any one but NFSU2 (Engine mods only, kick the sh*t out of the piss poor ricers. Then drive around a fairly interesting city.)

Also, Richards Burns Rally on PC; old but excellent.

Polar opposite - First Official WRC game on PS2; tripe

The first Colin McRae Rally on the PS1 was superb IMO. I played hour after hour of that, running through entire Championships. Didn't really like any of the sequels though for some reason.

I always liked Grand Prix by Geoff Crammond on the Amiga.
high 5!

GP2 was also quality, but lacked Mexico :(

Anyway, 3-screen GT5 rulez all.
"Anything else is for tight wad benders with inferior consolez"

yawn

EDIT: 15-player Daytona link-up in Hamleys basement, holler!

Geoff Hammond GP was revolutionary.

Even F1 2011 doesn't have the same level of set-up detail, even if it is much prettier etc.

Good call! Agreed, that the following games weren't as good.

Was the first one where you could enter the cheat code to have a "jelly" car?

There was a Lombard RAC rally game in the Amiga / Atari ST era.

that was alright, for it's day. You spent your winning on souping up your escort with cosworth stuff, and lights, until you wound up selling the lot for an RS200.

Also, PS1 had an international TOCA game, had all sorts, DTM, BTCC< AUssie V8's. great game, quite a bit of variance

+1 on Live For Speed as best.. If they ever release the Sirocco & Rockingham.. Or the whole game itself out of testing it'll be epic.

Can't think of a worst Sim.

Remember toca touring cars, ps1, there were cheats to get the lava track, the pink car and the tank that ACTUALLY shoots out of the canon and if you hit near an opponent sends them flying? Easter eggs like that is what i miss.

First one to say it sounds like GT5 will be a certified self-sex professional

Moar classix!

And, of course, the first game I ever saw which just involved pointlessly driving about like a tw@
