Are there so many nearly new 172 mkIIs with less than 10000 miles for sale? Is it because they have som many problems? I dont understand it - it seems that the owners on mkIs keep them much longer?! Most of the 30 thousand milers you see for sale are 1 / 2 owners. How may owners are the mkIIs...

Cheers guys - I suppose I was already thinking most of things that have been mentioned. The 172 is much better speced than the Civic. I will get a 172 though as I want ABS, side airbags and the other features. I think Ill go for a second hand one though - there seems to be some big savings...

When did they start fitting this on 172s, did some have it without a switch to turn it off? Or is it just the new 2003 ones with ESP?

So basically they all kick out pretty much the same power and its just the RRs thatre inaccurate?

Ive been wondering this too as the majority of people will say no if you ask them, after all they just want to sell their cars! Isnt there some sort of record kept of wartanty work carried out thats retained with the cars documentation?

I meant power variation between each mk1 car as they rolled off the prduction line like there is with the mk2....

I guess so - theres always a trade off with that and price though... I was really wondering if the mk1s suffered with the same niggling problems as the mk2s and CUPs seem to. Also if there was a much variation in power with the mk1s.

I started a thread yesterday regarding things to look out for when buying 2nd hand Mk2 172. Im now thinking I might go for a mint condition Mk1 as theyre obviously cheaper than the mk2s I have a couple of questions... what are the main differences between the mk 1 & 2? Do the mk1s suffer...

Cheers guys - how much difference will there really be in full acceleration conditions between good and bad ones power wise? Will it be fairly noticeable? If anyone can think of anything else let me know.

Im looking to get a mk2 172 in the next couple of months... I was thinking of getting a new one but seeing all the little niggling problems people have been haing on here with there new cars I have decided to get one second hand thats done about 10k... This way itll still have warranty...

I was reading Evo last night (the new issue) and theres a big article about the cup, 172 & V6. The article does suggest that the Cup has special compound tyres which are different to the 172.....

172 Horses - Wont changing the exhaust invalidate your warranty anyway... thatll be more of a problem than the premium for the exhaust? scotty16v - Who would you recommend for the insurance?

Would it be instantly noticable to servicing staff at a dealership if the head was flowed.

As far as internal mods go, wouldnt they notice anything (any difference in power...) when they hook it upto a computer when they service it or something? I really wouldnt know you see.... I guess haveing the head flowed or something like that would be pretty stealthy - what sort of power gain...

I take it a back box would be totally out.... what about if I asked renault to fit it?

Just wondering what you can get away with modding / changing if you want to keep the Renault warranty in tact.... I guess the answer is probably very little but I was wondering all the same. Thanks
