How do I find TDC of a piston?
Is there an easy way?
Is there an easy way?
Screw driver down the spark plug hole is the easiest way as the bloke said or you could time it up with the pin in the crank (making sure you don't put it in the balancing hole)
why do you ask anyway?
Just bought a leak down test kit, last update on my project thread. Thought I'd see if the melted spark plugs had caused any damage - when I saw how easy it is to do the test and the kit was only £46. Thought I'd give it a go.
But was unsure how to find TDC - just seen a vid where you can connect a vac\psi gauge into the plug hole, rotate crank, needle reading psi - in compression. As soon as it registers vacuum - go back a bit and with needle on zero that's TDC.
Haven't got a vac gauge so will use a GS and the trusty ole mk1 EB.
There is a mark on the fly wheel you can see it through the gearbox casing - just below the thermostat housing. On a std car it is difficult to see due to loom/air box.
There is a corresponding mark on the gearbox to line it up to. Assuming you have a std flywheel?
I'll see if I can find a pic...
