Getting mine done in the next month or two, up to the 5 year mark! :(
Had a good quote from Fred, heard loads about him as well so ill be straight off to a specialist!
the first change they had was at renault ( renault SH to60k) bargin

Has anyone got any experience with Tech1performance in Poole? Been quoted £550 for cambelt, dephaser, aux belt and water pump (10% off). Thanks.

How much would you expect to pay to get a cup done? Including new seals behind the cam sprockets and resealing the cam cover?

Thanks for that, just trying to get a rough idea. The belt was only done recently, but the dephaser rattles and the cam cover leaks. 😧

That sucks chap, we had a guy in today who had received similar treatment from another garage (translation: Poor advice regards belts & dephaser) just over a year ago to.

Well I bought the car without doing my research. :(

It was advertised with a recent cambelt change, but I didn't know that the dephaser needs doing as well.

The dephaser does not always need doing but it does make sense to change it anyway and definitely if it is showing signs of rattling.
Out of the many independant garages I went to only 1 of them felt that my dephaser required changing as they could just about hear it starting to go. I initially thought it was a rattly tensioner!

I have just had mine changed. That is the belts, idlers and dephaser pulley. It is nice having a near silent engine once warm, although it was not loud before.

Hopefully going to have a crack at mine over the forthcoming bank holiday weekend. I am getting sick of the smell of oil through the heater from the cam cover leaking onto the exhaust manifold. I have a pair of seals to go behind the cam sprockets as well, just to make sure.
To be honest out of all of the cars I have owned I have never had one which leaks oil in quite the same way. It seems that from everywhere it could leak, it does.

Are you certain it's coming from the cam cover?

I am pretty sure, I have had the inlet manifold off and had a look, as well as looking up from underneath when I changed the gearbox.

In order to spin the belt round a few times while the cams are still locked. This evens the tension out over the length of the belt

Sorted my Cambelt out last week and after a fair few attempts got it spot on, car feels epic..

Pulled apart a local members 182 today and wow, the last mechanic was a tool.. How much red lock sealent can one guy use.. We had to go as far as burning the stuff off with a Superfire2, the cam threads were so bad I thought we needed new cams..

Although it's performed well on track and on a rolling road, the timing was out..

He was also a smoker as a fag butt was found tucked in a place where you could only stub one while doing a belt.. Pee-nis

Nice to find out I have uprated engine mounts though, only owned the car 3 years lol.

This guy got worse, he used to locktite on the bottom cam pulley so it was stuck.. The cam cover was p1ss poorly resealed and the water pump sealant was smeared on with a broom.. To remove the cam seals he hammered a screw driver in the edge, rather than popping the middles..

Jamie's trying to find the old receipt to see who we have to thank for such an aids display of workmanship..

Just doesn't make sense to have it done on a car that's worth probably £500-800 on top of the work done.

Even then, your not guaranteed a perfectly timed engine.
Have mick or Dan do it for less and have peace of mind. No brainer to me.

Haha well I do have the belt kit in the car and I have done a lot more research and I now have met several folk who are local and can help me with it as they have done it before, been buying parts of a boy with 2 sunflower ph1's and everyone near me with ph1 know him and now has become easier to do it on my own. Still haven't done yet though I was doing the alternator belt kit which I done with no problems when I figured out how to loosen the tensioner and noticed my belts had been changed before they were timing marks all over the dephaser and exhaust but I reckon it was just the belts and nothing else was changed. My plan is still maybe do it myself after I get a new dephaser for it and a couple of other bits Al rip the engine out and then get it done at a mates bit and do the clutch and that too. So far I still haven't spent £1100 on it including buying it and had much fun out of it already and it still has no sign giving up hitting almost 80,000 which is about 5 or 6000 more than when I was discussing the belts with everyone. Now I have pissed about inside the bay it isn't as daunting as it was made out to be and the reason I didn't try doing it yet was because I have just been reading and watching folk do it so I can get the gist of it. My mate is taking his to be done at rentech because he doesn't want to mess with it, I on the other hand don't care I have had my money's worth out of it and I don't mind doing the work myself I don't mind paying someone to but it's my car and I will do te work to it, it's easier now knowing folk who have done them and can help me do mine as there is a dephaser locking tool which gets passed round where we live so I will do it one day, I do like the car but it's just a car at the end of the day and it's going fine the now it can wait a wee bit for the belts to be done till ready haha

I was referring to the amount of times you have told people not to try it there selves as it ends in failure, but they don't take your advise. I was being sarcastic but you have now ruined the moment.

Danny's totally right in the fact I should be getting it done by the specialists but I won't most probably. It's not about it being right or not I just fancy doing it myself and now I know folk near that can do it and willing to help.
