Cambelt- Dephaser/water pump too? 182

  Clio F1 197 Cup
Hey everyone,

So in June my cam belt will be due again. The car has done just over 73k and is a 55 plate. The big question is do I also change the de-phaser and/or water pump at the same time as I have no evidence of these being changed in the cars life time. I'm pretty much decided on going to Engine Dynamics for the work, they are fairly close and seem to come recommended. Usefully, they have an excellent website with price breakdown and the total cost nearly doubles doing everything compared to just going the belts.

I've always believed in preventive maintenance but I don't want to just spend money for the sake of it. As such, whilst there is access is it sensible to change the dephaser/water pump whilst you're there?

From what I can gather, the dephaser was designed to be a lifetime part?

I appreciate this whole topic has been widely discussed but I can't seem to find anything particularly recent when doing my searches. So I'm curious to hear the current opinion.

What do you all think?

I had mine done at Engine Dynamics earlier in the month and highly recommend. I did the whole lot including water pump and dephaser etc.

The 197 dephaser dosnt wear like the 1*2 does so you can leave that.
The water pump on the 1*2 lasts around 10 years on the 197 it runs off the smooth side of the cam belt so worth replacing .

And thanks for the reply haha, it says 197 in my profile but this post is for my 182- little bit longer to go on the 197!

I would, my mechanic said the water pump was 'noisy' as well as the dephaser, so he just did it anyway. Easy way for a quick coolant change at the same time.

Definitely do the dephaser, If it goes a year down the line although It wont hurt the car it'll cost you another belt change. Water pumps I think are around £30 so makes sense to fit one of them also.

But like Flebay says on a 197 they have been redesigned and hardly ever fail, On my 197 Its not had the dephaser done and has been fine.

The 197 has only done 9,000 miles, so hopefully I can just change the cambelt on that and nothing else. I'm hoping the water pump and dephaser will be okay.

Haha, yeah, I'll probably do pretty well on the low mileage competition! But there are probably are a few out there with even less miles! I use it every now and then...

I paid a lot more as i had lots of other stuff done at the same time. I just went with Service Code D on their website and then had more stuff done ha ha, but £630 sounds about right.
I would be curious to hear what else you had done...

Deffo do both if you can afford it - 5yrs piece of mind, assuming all genuine parts.
So- that settles it then. Going to do everything, guess I'll definitely have to keep these car a while now!

If you have a look in my build thread it will tell you all the work I had done.

I had my belts dephaser and water pump done all at the same time. Glad of it as my water pump was leaking onto the sub frame and had obviously been doing so for a while as it was rusting.
These sort of things can be 13 years old so need changing.
