Trying to save a £300 172 cup

Cambelt isn’t too tricky on the Cup’s. I researched the process on here and there was more than enough information to give me the confidence to give it a go.

Might as well pull the engine and do the clutch at the same time 👍

I'm tempted to pull the engine just so I can clean the bay [emoji23]

Clutch was done in 2011 same time as the belt 4000 miles ago [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

Were those wheels throw on to move it or did someone actually choose them?
Back in 2011 them wheels was quality [emoji23][emoji23]

Them and the stereo are the only mods thank god [emoji6]

Loads more cleaning [emoji23]

Every seal had had a propper thick coat of mud on so all have been removed and cleaned

Getting there still more to do today[emoji6]

Get those sills as well cause they'll be corrosive s**t in there too.. Just pop rivets along the bottom and they pop up and off the hangers. Replace with m6 Riv-nuts and dome head M6 bolts..

Dont go this far though. You wont need to if youre keeping the interior...[emoji23]

Im currently prepping it to spray all the interior..

If the belt was done 9 years ago it will need changing based on age not mileage. Cambelt is 5 years or 72000 miles.

If you're not planning on keeping it i wouldnt bother with the cambelt but it needs doing if you are.

All my buddies tell me to put a father engine in it and me being me I always would but for some reason I want to keep this one origional

Forgot to say about the popcorn pot that thing has been used for everything bleeding brakes, now mud pot I swear it's indistructable [emoji23]

I like the sound of the riv nut along the skirts I have not got a tool any idea of the cheap ebay ones are any good

You want ideas.. heres another one..

Where the front jacking point is, no doubt its folded over and rusty, straighten it all up and treat it with rust restorer. Then get a 1 inch square steel box section and bolt it up against it so it doesn't fold up in the future when you need to jack it up..

Only drivers front is bent up but that does look a good idea too I was going to have a go at straightening it but didn't want to make it worse

Any ideas

Not going to be doing much more today taking my daughter for a bike rive now so maybe a quick wipe over when I get back

I'm in the process of doing the same with a car I parked up 4 years ago and never went back to! Albeit im not doing it to quite the same standard but you've given me the idea to take the wings off when I do my radiator swap, coolant flush and oil change.

Mine was sat out in the open, no rodent residents but a mass of spiders have moved in!

I've found a wealth of cheap parts on eBay as I don't think I'm quite going down the full OEM route.

As this is full of crap I decided it's going to need to be stripped to be cleaned properly

Removed all the brake Calipers today, cleaned and painted nothing special just a quick blow over, I wanted to check out the Calipers more than anything

My buddy phoned to say he had a scrapper on and did I need any parts, so I grabbed a couple of window seals a gear gaitor and a rear light cluster to sort out a rusty terminal

Painted the wiper arms too

Not a bad day considering I've been to work for 8 hours too
