Ash’s Clio 182 Trophy

I was going to say the rear tyres looked pretty close I'm Mark's photo's! I'd reduce the spacers a little as the ride height looks spot on. The car looks amazing now, but I expect nothing else from you Ash👍.

This is my new favourite clio on the forum. Literally epic attention to detail. I have the same BC DS coilovers and be interesting to see how you find them. I personally love them - currently have them set just over mid point on front and back and the ride is really composed. Another on 2118’s - i think they finish off the car a treat. Did you get the strut brace specially made? If so would you mind PM’ing me the details please as it looks ace.

Very kind words thank you, there are some very nice cars on the forum!

Will message you details re the brace (y)

Are you Steve? If so, it is me you bought the PMS tips from.

I still have the 3.5” on the car. I bought the 3” ones, but they didn’t fit my system (there is a reason why, PM if you want to know), but will fit fine on your system.

Catches very slightly on the front, so will be addressing this. Not all the time, tends to be over larger compressions.

Hi there - can I ask where you’re getting your parts / part numbers from? I’ve just bought a Trophy and there are lots of little things I need (mirrors, interior trim for the dash, mirrors, window rubbers etc etc) but I’m really struggling to get part numbers and source the parts...

Trying to get OEM to the extent possible.

Got the car back from the detailers today.

Soon as I got it home, I fitted a couple of small things I was waiting to do.

First, my bonnet stay guide. It was pointed out to me that mine was missing! Then I remembered when I removed the old grille, finding an odd clip on the floor and not knowing where it should go, so into a box of spare screws/bolts it went. Sure enough it was this, glad I didn’t throw it away!

Then swapped over the boot struts. Mine were ok, but made a bit of a noise when opening the hatch. Now cured with new SGS engineering struts.

And a few pictures of how it looks after being detailed. Pictures do not do it justice, it’s stunning! Never seen a Trophy so glossy either, and nice knowing it’s fully ceramic coated which should make maintaining it a nice and easy job for me! He also had a client’s mint Mk2 GTI in for a detail too, as can be seen in the first image. tunning,
ave a lot of love for one of those

Looks beautiful Ash. Just gotta got get it caked in bugs, tyre and brake dust now dude. 🙂👌🏼

Oh yes, it will certainly get driven. Now I’ve finished making it all nice (bar a couple of additions still to come), and protected the bodywork to a degree, it’s time to drive it. Which is the main reason I bought it; appreciate it doesn’t look like that at the moment!

Unfortunately I need to raise the height a bit (mainly at the back) before I can properly use it as it does rub a tad and it puts me off using it in anger. Whilst I like my cars looking nice (and it looks awesome the way it sits now), function, performance and driving dynamics always come before form and looks for me. I build my cars for a purpose and I intend to use it! 😎

Hi mate,

I haven’t replaced any of those parts you have mentioned so can’t comment on part numbers.

But there is a thread on the Clio Trophy forum with most common part numbers (think you have already seen this as somebody replied to your thread on there). And I find Renault Parts Direct quite useful too for parts and part numbers. They’re normally the best you’ll get in terms of price too. If they don’t have something on the website, then still worth asking them as they can often supply parts that are not listed on their website - they are on this forum.

Hope this helps.

Insane amount of work has gone into this. It looks like, new beautiful car.

@Ash J When you get a minute could you please PM me where you got the inlet stainless bolts, archliners bolts and stainless steel fasteners? Cheers!

Wasn’t happy with the new gas struts for the hatch that I recently bought from SGS Engineering. They were the correct length struts, but not strong enough as seemed to stop half way and then you would have to physically push the hatch up the last 30% or so (it doesn’t go that high as it is due to the bigger spoiler!).

So I went trawling through e-mails from 5 years ago to try and find the part numbers for the Magneti Marelli ones I bought when I had my Black Gold 182. I remember buying new ones for that car as I fitted a V6 spoiler to it, and they worked perfectly. Managed to find the part number (430719067000 for any V6 or Trophy owners that might be interested) and got a pair ordered up. They are actually BMW 1 Series bonnet struts, but work perfectly on the hatch of a V6/Trophy.

Arrived yesterday and got them fitted today. Million times better; much stronger and they stop at the perfect height so the spoiler doesn’t hit, just as I remembered.

At £25 delivered for the pair (cheaper than SGS ones too), I’m well happy!

The BMW ones are great quality. I've got the genuine BMW branded ones from a breaker and they still work great.

All being done by Alex at AW Motorworks :)

So, as can be seen by the photos above, dropped the Trophy off with Alex earlier this week to have everything fitted.

Before that, I picked up the Pure Motorsport exhaust from my friend, and got it home and gave it a polish. Only thing I noticed was the tips were too large for my liking, and had a couple of scuffs I couldn’t get out (see photos), so I ordered a new pair from PMS, slightly smaller (3” instead of 3.5”), and got them shipped straight to Alex.

Was advertised as being barely used/almost new; certainly looks to be the case.

Also, gave the coilovers a good coating of ACF-50 before boxing them up and putting them in the back of the car for fitting...

View attachment 1477705

My dash vent slider bars turned up after being 3D printed, but unfortunately they were no use. Quite intricate parts to replicate, but I appreciated that somebody gave it a go at least!

View attachment 1477706

Ended up buying a complete vent unit from a car breaking on eBay, just waiting to get the car back from all the work, and then I can swap the parts out of this into my car and finally fix this!

Finally got round to buying a few bits to make a mounting system for the GoPro I was bought for my birthday (almost a year ago) but haven’t used yet!

Quite happy with the solution I’ve come up with! Knew the rear brace would have a use for something  appears very secure so look forward to giving it a go soon.

I can also mount the GoPro directly to the mount on the brace if I don’t want to use the extension arm.

And don’t worry, those blue adjusters will soon be red once my replacements turn up :ROFLMAO:

In other news, heading back up to AW Motorworks tomorrow for the following:

Group N Timing
Mapping at Engine Dynamics
Fit new PMS exhaust system
Few other small tweaks and parts to fit

Decided to buy a new PMS system, as the current system I got hold of second hand isn’t an “official” Pure one. You wouldn’t know looking at it, but I bought some smaller tips from Pure to fit to the current system, and they wouldn’t go on. After speaking with Nick, he managed to identify that the system was not one of his. Basically made by the same company that make them for him, but very slightly different in design (as they can’t copy 100% as Nick owns the rights), and it is only slightly as I don’t think anybody else, including myself, would be able to tell. Call me OCD/pedantic, but I decided to buy a new system straight from Nick to put my mind at rest, even though there will essentially be no difference whatsoever! 😅

Also means I can get the stainless exhaust hangers from Pro-AM fitted at the same time the exhaust

So the car is loaded up ready for the journey tomorrow.

Few pictures of the exhaust and smaller parts (powdercoated rear caliper carriers and new set of 4 engine mount bolts) that will be getting fitted...

I’m actually going with a Pure decat, but I know the part you are on about, the derestriction kit which you weld on to the OE cat where it joins the mid section.

So took the trip up to Alex yesterday to have the Group N timing carried out and a few other parts fitted. And then onto Engine Dynamics for mapping. @Stefan. came along too as he was having Alex carry out a belts change on his Trophy.

Alex working his magic on the timing...

Then onto fitting the new Pure Motorsport exhaust system, along with the stainless Pro-AM rear hanger mounts.

When comparing the Pro-AM mounts with the old ones, you can see they are a tad shallower than original ones (10mm to be precise) as shown in this photo. This essentially means the exhaust sits 10mm higher/closer to the bumper cut outs. This was a nice little bonus actually as whilst the Pure system is a nice bit of kit, I’ve always noticed they sit a bit low for my liking and you get a bit of a gap between the tip and bumper cut outs. Not the case when mated to these Pro-AM mounts! Looking really nice underneath here.

Then it went to Andy at Engine Dynamics for mapping. Obligatory photo outside...

The end result...

24C2183C-C8E8-432E-A3C1-9FB2215E4E1A.jpeg

Very happy with the figures. Have gained almost 30lb/ft in places at the lower end. Torque gain is very noticeable on the road, pickup is so much better between 3k-4K rpm. Peak torque is also achieved earlier in the rev range than the standard map too. And it made just shy of 190hp at top end as well.

Spec for anybody interested:

K-Tec Induction Kit
Matched Inlets
Pure Motorsport Decat
Pure Motorsport Cat-Back
Group N Timing
Standard Injectors

After the mapping, there were just a few small jobs to finish, namely:

- Adjust/align exhaust system after it had been initially offered up
- Fit powdercoated rear caliper carriers
- Remove 1 x 10mm spacer from each side at the rear
- Fit new engine mount bolts
- Fill PMS shifter linkage with lead shot

Because I was running 20mm stub axle spacers at the rear, I was getting a small amount of rubbing at the height the car was at. The front was also catching on lock. With 10mm removed from each side at the rear, and a slight modification to the front bumper brackets, all rubbing is now cured and is much nicer to drive! Still sits and looks really good.

PMS shifter is now much quieter after being filled with lead shot, a great mod! Not completely silent, but much more tolerable.

Do love how clean the engine bay is on this...

7FA7CCF9-4246-41F8-8AA9-0FDA48C835EB.jpeg

And finally, I’ve had to order another pair of exhaust trims from K-Tec as mine are both melted. The left hand side was melted from the old exhaust which wasn’t aligned too well. And then the right hand one was my fault on the way back from mapping. I was flat out for a significant period of time chasing down an Exige S on the journey back to Alex’s from Engine Dynamics. Given the new exhaust wasn’t fully aligned when it was fitted prior to mapping (as I wanted to drive the car first to see let it move around a bit and see where it would rest/settle before final tweaking), it must have been sitting on the trim when I was wide open on the throttle! 😅 gets expensive at almost £80 a pair for replacements (the ones on the car now were new a few months ago) 😅 never mind!

It sits fine now it has been tweaked, doesn’t touch at all, so new trims will be safe from melting!

Great work and gorgeous Trophy.

Any chance you could PM me @Ash J how much you paid for the retrim on the Steering wheel please, if you don't mind ofcourse. Need to get rid of the standard blue off mine.

You need some of @Louis centre caps for them 2118's ;)

Looks absolutely mega though!!

Thanks mate! Unusually, I actually prefer the looks of the wheels without centre caps, looks a bit more motorsport! I have thought about buying some to try though, as I might like them when actually fitted.

You should of bought Stefans exhaust 😂 good results on the dyno I had 197 cams to get same power.

We bought our systems together in order to get a slight bit of discount 😁 didn’t know Stef would part with his so soon! Jealous of his sports cat though, just because it looks so nice!

Yes am happy with the numbers. It was more about the mid range and driveability for me than headline power number, but was pleased it almost made 190!

Great work and gorgeous Trophy.

Any chance you could PM me @Ash J how much you paid for the retrim on the Steering wheel please, if you don't mind ofcourse. Need to get rid of the standard blue off mine.

Thanks for the nice comment. I will PM you what I was quoted for the retrim👍

So after a very, very long wait, my new seats have arrived!

I ordered these almost 3-4 months ago, and unfortunately it was just bad timing due to Covid and the impact on everything! Recaro had a massive backlog of orders when they reopened the factory in Germany.

Big thanks to @frayz for your help with putting me in touch with Mike who sorted me out with these (y) much appreciated mate.

We have:

Pair of Recaro Pole Positions
Recaro Aluminium Side Mounts (in the smaller boxes)
Recaro Double Locking Runners
New hardware throughout

I also had a pair of seat belts re-webbed in red recently; these will get fitted at the same time to complete the package.

Now just need to get a pair of @JON FOZ subframes ordered up (hopefully this week) and then fingers crossed might be able to look at fitting this weekend if the subframes arrive before then. Otherwise it will have to be the following weekend.

Am just glad they finally arrived!

Fantastic update ! Where did you source the new belts?

I sent original ones to Kolour Koncept as Mossy mentioned above, to be re-webbed.

Contact them through Facebook is the easiest way.
