Talk to me about audio guys, I know the standard head unit amp is pants. I don’t want to swap the stereo so need an amp and some front speakers Im guessing?

That was quick to recognise the standard stereo is utter rubbish. And mine’s got the upgraded Arkamys but still like listening to music through a tin can and string.

Had a long drive back from picking it up 😂 I know if you change the standard head unit you can loose functionality so I don't want to do that. Focal are good but maybe a bit too sharp for me maybe get something a bit warmer sounding.

Do I need adapter wiring or speaker brackets etc?

I don’t believe you need speaker brackets but maybe wrong. I had it done for me by Mark at road radio.
You will need a wiring harness. Again they’ll be able to confirm which one.

I got this setup recently and makes a massive difference.

I kept the rears as a lot of faff to change.
More info of common setup using the amp.
This, plus the various wiring adapters for the head unit amp, speaker spacers, wire adapter for the speakers if you dont fancy chopping the standard plugs off.

@FatRS @VXR killer

I have been doing some digging on the audio setup this morning and found that Focal did a plug and play kit for various Renault/Dacia/Nissan. The one I would be interested in is the Focal IFR130-4. I have decided to get the Pioneer amp and the Ford ISO lead adapter so that should take care of the wiring. The Focal kit comes with adapters, brackets, wiring etc so it really should be plug and play. The only problem is the price! Cheapest is around £250, but I have seen the same kit under a different name in the UK, which is ISREN130 and seems to come with all the same stuff. For the money I'm undecided if its worth it or not, you are basically paying for the ease of installation and the name. I'm not sure how good the quality would be. You could probably get better speakers for less and then get some speaker brackets.

Ive heard people have problems with the ford loom, i used the megane 3 one, but be carefull as there earlier and later ones. This is the earlier 250 one...

i think i bought a more expensive one, with extra plugs/loom thats missing out of the above, but it doesnt matter, as i removed them anyway to save space, but if thats the case with the one in the link above, you will have to unclip the two smaller plugs (remote/mic and screen plug/wiring) out of the standard main plug and plug into the new looms main plug. Everything else with the plugs and amp are plug n play.

Box of Renault parts arrived this morning. My new engine and gearbox mounts. People tend to fit the 265/275 gearbox mount, which is 112212065R, but the part is on back order from Renault with no ETA and I couldn't see any difference between it and the 250 version 112200014R, luckily there was one 14R left in the country so I snapped it up! For the engine mount, I have the powerflex insert to go in and at the same time will fit the stronger bolt.

It gets better! Just got the email from the previous owner with some pics as he promised. He also tells me the car has a Wagner intercooler fitted that i didn't know about! I quickly rush out to the car to check and it does! That is a right result saving me a bunch of cash for an IC.

Has he indicated if it’s been mapped? Unusual to do IC if not mapped?

Popped to Beaniesport today to see Chris, went for a test drive on arrival as he owns one himself so he knows how it should feel. Straight away he said it feels tighter than his and drove lovely so that was good to hear. Get it back and on the ramps and no issues to report. It's really clean underneath, no leaks or anything so that was great news and now I have seen it underneath, I can put my mind at ease. Cracked on with the mounts and the top dog bone was completely separated so it was a good job I decided to change them. Drives even better now and the slight jerkiness has gone with no extra vibrations from the powerflex insert. Also the extra piece of mind that the gearbox bolt has been replaced.

One thing I have found strange is the diff, it seems to be very gentle and can't really feel it. Saying that, I haven't had a clear run to see what it's really capable of. If you get greedy with the throttle it will spin, which is expected, but hopefully once I get used to it I will be able to predict how it will handle. More seat time required and probably some Cooksports!

Glad to hear you're having a good time with the motor! Hope you have more fun than I did with mine.

I did engine mounts with Powerflex inserts, makes a nice difference!

Finally found a photo of my POS

I always fit the lower gearbox vibra technic mount, prolongs the rest of them. I have got the insert somewhere for the top one.

You realise you don’t have to put the keycard in the slot?

Yes, but it was deadlocked previously so keyless doesnt work and yes I know once it's started you can remove the key, but saves it rattling around scratching trim. Only use keyless if I'm popping in and out somewhere.

Should be able to feel the diff working in these greasy conditions. Have you fully planted the throttle with steering angle on? Roundabout exits are great for this.

So it's a keeper

Always planned it to be, have a few more Christmas bits to fit in the coming weeks.

Already know there is an issue, waiting to hear back from Ktec. If they don't repair, I'll book it in to get the box off and inspected and find out what the issue is.

Yer a Zero Point or CAE is amazing but it's also extremely expensive and you may have to cut the trim around the gear surround. Would be a nice luxury item maybe in the future.

Im enjoying it, but would like to get the gearbox sorted so I can find out what it's capable of.

No I do not, I think the last good one I had was my Accord estate which I even sold for a bit of profit. I try so hard and do so much research when buying a car, but end up which such bad luck. Apart from this gearbox/diff issue the car seems to be good.

Surely came with warranty from ktec?

The car was sold with the issue so regardless of the warranty its Ktec's responsibility to sort it out under consumer law.

The car was sold with a warranty yes, but I don't think they have activated it yet as I have been told multiple times I will get my paperwork in a couple of days and never have, I guess they were hoping I would accept the refund rather than push for repairs.

I purchased the amp, the wiring loom and i have looked at the guide. I haven't been out to the car yet, but I'm not sure on how it all connects together. I know one end of the wiring goes into the stereo and then the other goes into the car loom, but then how does the amp connect up? Tagging @Gavin. as he might remember.

Did they offer you a full refund instead of repair?

I sent an official email a couple weeks ago stating I wanted a repair over a refund and never heard anything back. Car will be dropped off at the weekend to another garage and the gearbox will be pulled and then I guess I will take the risk and go through the courts to reclaim it.

You’re mental. Take the refund. Find another.

Why take the risk?

Cars spot on apart from that iirc.

Do the diff and have a properly nice car. Then pop an invoice to ktec.

To get no reply is shambolic though.

Been an age since I looked but almost impossible to get wrong, amp sits in line between the speakers and stereo, the adapter loom makes that possible. Pretty easy to figure out when it’s in front of you
