Time for a bit of an update then.

Tweaked the design for the angled spacers and put them out for quotes to be cnc'd

Wasn't really sure what to expect with the bore having a sweep and a taper but quotes came back ranging from £224 each 😬😬 to £98 each 😬 (still a bit of a sting)

Anyways they turned up this week and has to be said they're worth it 👌🏻

Much better angle and room around the the trumpets for the airbox 👌🏻
As said mate, looks awesome! And a much better angle for the airflow directly into the ports from a ram air perspective.

However.

You forgot to mention custom steel selector forks for the gearbox. 😂

Look nice (y)

but wtf did you design them like that do you know how much of a pain in the fanny they would be to machine?

Designed like that because they need to be like that mate.

The straight spacers that was in before put the trumpets nearly touching the bonnet. And the taper is to go from the 50mm bodies down to the inlet manifold

Was keeping that one on the QT till we got them modelled and into production 😂
You can go into that one if you want to mate 😉

Looks like you could have gotten away with something like this no (I just guessed at dims and angle)?

I think the slowest and most expensive part would have been removing the material around the outside - just that you made the comment about cost. Looks like theres enough room to get bolts in from the other side of the manifold flange, into 4 tapped holes on the wedge spacer. The center can still be nicely tapered etc.

Im not knocking yours btw, I think they look great just addressing your cost comment.

They look far too heavy. Easily an extra 50 grams. 😂😂😂😂😂

You're probably right I could of got away with something like that but wanted to try bolt from the spacer into the inlet manifold as per the standard.
Plus as Mark said #becauseracecar weight saving and all that 😂

You're 100% right Rob, its just that I've spent £400 on these so I can't openly admit that your right. Either way could you stop being a massive prick now and just get on with enjoying my car p**n thread I could of got away with something like that but wanted to try bolt from the spacer into the inlet manifold as per the standard.

I am being a dick now - I do realise that but...

Can you get a bolt in that, and if you can, will it engage by more than half a thread? This must be a bolt from the back job anyway?

Things have been slow going again lately with building cages and moving house.

Slight bit of progress yesterday though getting the Laminova mounted and the oil lines done. (One fitting short of finishing them 🤦🏻‍♂️)

Fab'd up a lower bracket to locate the tank as trying to holding it place with blocks of wood just wasn't happening. Will look for something more suitable off the shelf but can see it having to be a couple of fabricated brackets.

Couple of pictures

Slow progress is still progress mate 👍🏻

Bit more done today,

Fittings arrived this week to make a start on the fuel lines and get the last oil line finished but like always what you think is right never actually is 🤦🏻‍♂️

20210503_171014.jpg

Bottom feed line done.

20210503_164057.jpg

Tank did have plastic push fit 90° fitting with a ½" BSPT thread but trying to find a BSPT to AN fitting was a no go so tapped the bosses out to ½ NPT.

20210503_170321.jpg

Made a start on the fuel lines but need to order a couple of Banjo fittings for the regulator.

Will be another dry break coupling getting fitted on the return.

20210503_171556.jpg

Fuel lines running through Torques Fibreglass heat sleeving. Will be getting a heat shield over the top as well.

Need to get a catch tank ordered next to get the last line done from the top of the oil tank. Will have to try decipher the MSUK website for the bluebook to see what size is needed.

Also getting the engine bay 3d scanned in the next couple of weeks so I can design the airbox to fit around everything.

Less of a progress report and more of a fashion show post

Took delivery of a Carbon bulkhead infill plate thingy this week, will let the pictures do the talking

Big thanks to Alex Gregory for making it 👌🏻

Oh and it weighs in it at just 210grams rather that 840 like the steel one.

Can't heat be a problem for carbon fiber?
I also make parts out of carbon fiber, but try to keep them away from manifolds.

Thanks
I believe the carbon its self is ok at temperatures, the epoxy is the problem - although you can use high temp laminating epoxy.

It looks so good, I would be tempted to add something to try and reflect heat in the areas where the manifold is closest? Bit of gold stuck on carbon has to look proper race car?

It looks very nice, the only problem in time without having something to protect it from heat, it will have a yellow ish color in some spots where heat is excessive. Carbon fiber in engine bay will remain the best looking thing (and perfect weight combo)

Does the dry sump tank not have an oil/air separator? I thought that would have be enough

Enough?

Yes it has some gubbins inside to have help air separation.

"The scavenge oil return is fan tailed and angled onto the inner side wall of the tank to to spin the oil and air apart. The oil then runs down through a flat baffle plate to promote further oil air separation, finally entering the lower chamber through a drilled centre column."

Sorry, rather than having to run a 2L catch can I would have assumed the air/oil separator and a breather would have been sufficient

Not much to report lately, just been collecting some small bits for the build.

Managed to pick up a lever bias valve and 3 chamber reservoir that had been mounted but never used at decent price.
Also got a brake hold/line lock solenoid for the rears when on the grid as done have a handbrake.

With the plan to fit a pedal box we took the decision to completely redo the brake lines as well rather than cut the existing kit up to suit so started on them last weekend meaning the kit that was fitted is up for grabs if anyone is looking for one or knows someone that is.

I got the kit from James Ashton aka @BIGASH when I bought the Alcons from him.
Cup master and tilton bias involved.
No idea what it's all worth so if anyone's got an idea let it be heard 👍🏻
