I keep looking at this because its very local to me:

But I'm quite set on an auto estate. Has anyone driven a 140i and 340i, were they especially different to drive? My other thinking on hunting for a 340i is that I think a lot of the 140's have been given a hard time while a 340 might have had a gentler life?

You want an M-Sport+ minimum, I wanted an F31 340i in San Marino Blue. That's like trying to win the lottery, however when mine did pop up for sale it was such a good car I went for it and yeah Silvers boring and not really a colour I get enjoyment out of in terms of cleaning it etc but it does look great now.

What does M-Sport+ do over M-Sport? I'm actually a bit lost with all the options!

Ideal would for me would be f31, glass roof, dynamic cruise, LED lights, heated/electric seats, not white, the optional exhaust. But finding anything with low miles, semi local seems to be the first hurdle!

I'm not a massive fan of silver but yours looks spot on (y)

If you go on BabyBM you will find a lot of 140 owners are older and tend to look after their cars, i am not saying they don't drive them hard, but they do seem to look after their cars.

Something i never thought of before getting mine, heated seats are great in the winter, and electric seats are great if your missus drives the car, save loads of f**king about.

You can retro fit better Nav, and it's not too expensive.
Trouble is out of all the cars I dribble at on eBay the 140i seems to have the highest number of CAT N/S cars, like every other add is CAT S and most seem to have a remap. Ideally I just want a standard car which has been owned by David Attenborough and religiously serviced by BMW.... Then naturally I'll ruin it with a remap and some stupid modzzzzz etc 🤣

M-Sport+ gives you the bigger brakes (370mm+painted), HK, Pro nav, LED headlights, privacy glass (but if they're all like mine theyre f**king dark) and 19's, I think thats it. Oh and the seats have a silver piping if they're black like mine for example.

I've got the same on mine too, they look great although I've kerbed them twice now 🤣
And ye I agree, 4.5k for the originals is crazy.
They do certainly look the business! £4.5k is ridiculous though, 666m's are less. Quite like ARC-8's on these.

Spending all that money on performance upgrades I would also ditch the (I'm assuming) 15k miles old run flats!

The XHP is something I keep meaning to have done to mine.

I think they have been replaced as they have loads of tread, I was going to ditch them straight away but aside from the fidgety ride they grip well. Will swap them out in a few months

Fitted the VRSF DP and B58TU plugs gapped at 0.22 and removed the PPF

loads of grunt now and a few chavvy pops and my favourite what only can be described as a thump on the upshifts on part throttle 😁still pretty quiet in comfort mode thanks to the stock valved back box and retaining the resonator

M performance underbody brace and ITG panel filter fitted today. Actually love this thing now, it’s becoming a weapon.

Got a B58 TU fuel pump waiting to go on which should get me a solid 460/470bhp 😁

Lad popped into see me who I sold his first car too about 5 years ago, 1.2 white corsa.

Rocks up in his grey 3dr 140 auto. Sounded great. Was telling me yoof stories of cars he's played with. If true (guess they are) these are quick cars. 👍

Does it have a LSD? surely you are struggling to get the power down if it doesn't?

No LSD, hooks up pretty well in the dry. Got some Eagle F1 Supersports being fitted on Thursday which should help
This is a thing, i am not running your power, but about 370ish, and although it squirms it hooks up and goes, i have asym 5''s and they grip well, they arent as tail happy as people make out.

No, no, no, if you read babybmw.net you'll learn that these cars are totally undriveable without an LSD, they'll apparently kill you running stock power when it's below 15 degrees and there's rain forecast..

Great progress on the car, 460/470 sounds insane! Thread needs more Sunset Orange pics though ;)

I came on here to post exactly that, their is a thread on there at the moment about should someone map their M140 or not, and the amount of people saying it would be dangerous to map it without fitting better suspension etc is unbelievable, they make they try to kill you every time you drive them, i have driven mine in all weathers and even when pushing never felt like it was going to throw me into a hedge.

Had my 140 about 18 months or so now. Its just such a good all round car. I use mine for business a lot and always visit customers at their homes (no im not a sex worker...) and very rarely do I get anyone making comment about it. Thats exactly what I wanted. Nothing worse than asking for someones business only to have a flash motor sat outside making you look like youre making a packet off them. I had 1 comment the other day with a chap who asked 'how fast is your Alpina M1 mate?'.

All that aside, its been brilliant. Bilsteins coming soon as well as XHP. Power is fine for the moment...:)

I drove mine through a flooded road once and didn't die. That was a funny trip - went to my friend's house, not been for a while and first time using this which had sat nav. I knew where they lived but there was a short cut they used and my sat nav was directing my what I thought was the same way....no it was not. It wanted to ake me along a dirt track lane as it was a farmer's road through a field. I decided to turn back when the vauge dirt marks ended in the middle of a field. Was also pouring with rain and most of the lanes I was on were about 1-2" deep of water. Car coped fine. Worst thing was I was no more than a mile from their house but it was the other side of a hill. Yes it was the worst SaNav ever - I had the ProNav so not sure if it was meant to be better? Didn't even recognise my address and that was build 10years before the car!
The only time I struggled was when it snowed . I just had to crawl out of my road on tick over. Was still on the original tyres which I think were Michelin MPSS

Think Pronav is just the large screen mate, we hardly get snow here, we got a little bit last winter, i just put it in manual and started the car off in second, can also use Ecopro to limit the throttle response.

i know i am biased, but as a daily they are so good, comfy, quiet in comfort, and can cover ground really quickly when required, i get why people don't find them exciting, but i love mine.

i fancy XHP at some point, but you seem to get the most bang for you buck if the car is mapped with XHP.

Sorry OP for hijacking the thread, once you fit the uprated fuel pump yours will be a proper weapon.

The only bit I could disagree with what youve said is the comfort part. Generally, theyre comfortable. The cabin is a great place to be. everything is where you'd expect it to be. I do find the dampers on the 140 a bit pants. It skips over bumps on a b road too much for my liking and feels quite scary at times. Bilsteins will solve this ive been told :)

I found my adaptive setup a good blend of soft and comfortable, and slightly less soft if the mood took me.

I've ridden twice in passive cars with Bilstein dampers and the transformation is HUGE!
Mark, if anyone is going to know the answer, its going to be you! How did the Bilsteins transform the car? Ive heard it makes it more 'compliant' down a B road but without making it wishy washy. Thoughts please :)
