O/S driveshaft removal

Hi all

Would like minimise time spent rolling around on the floor today. Hoping someone could please run me through the process of removing o/s driveshaft from my 182 FFs.

Replaced n/s the other day that was relatively easy so with O/S, I'll know what im doing up until pulling shaft from the gearbox.

The 2 bolts for the bearing support, do these have to come out to release shaft? or does it simply pull out?

Cheers

The way i do is:

Crack hub nut off
Track rod end nut off
Two bolts holding ball joint to lower arm off
Support bearing clamp off
Pull shaft out of hub side
Pull shaft out of box (might be tight where the support bearing is, so give it a tap)

No need to drain oil unless it's already out from doing the NS.

Weight of the hub will be held by the shock, so shoudn't be a problem.
Yes, you're right. I didn't read the full post. Mine happened when I was removing the driveshaft, but also the hub carrier from the shocks.

Once youve got the old shaft off, dont put too much grease on the splines of the new one. It probably just me but I put loads on and struggled to push the shaft on to the gearbox splines as there was no way of air escaping from behind the shaft.

Have some string or bungy cords to hand incase you need to suspend the shaft.

In summary for anyone taking this on for the first time.

Followed @Mr Trailer Man’s method above, can confirm it worked for me.

All I’d say in addition.

Once new shaft is in hub,

Keep an eye on the outer boot.

Make sure it’s not getting trapped/pinched anywhere.

Cheers for the replies massively appreciated!

Easy work mate.

Think the quickest I've done one in is 10 minutes, including jacking the car up and getting it on a stand 😅
