Detailing Chat & Questions Thread

The gf’s car goes back Monday in readiness for her new one. She lives in the sticks so as well as all the dirt and mud (honestly it looked like it was baked on to the paint) it’s also covered in scratches from all the narrow lanes. Wish I’d not volunteered to do it tbf as even after 4 or so hours it still looks shite in some places. Probably would have looked good enough after taking it to the £5 wash. Still, she’s happy and should be good enough to avoid any fees.

Looks alright from this angle 😂

Finished of my new daily driver this week - 3 wheels needed diamond cutting which I have done at GoTints in Huddersfield.

£180 and I can say they really come back looking like a new wheel ( inside and out ) - also treated it to some new black plastic wheel bolt caps

Then I got the buffer out for a full buff all over -

In reference to my post above, I must say I have a new level of respect for guys that work on “every day” cars as part of their job/business.
It’s been a so many years now since I cleaned a car that hasn’t had some type of regular care, and I’d forgotten how hard it was. Her car is only 3 years and it was properly tough going by hand. Maybe some power tools would have helped, but still…

Lovely bucket, that.

Tidy! Didn't know you had this Nick

I’m with you on the respect thing Nick - as it’s really F…..king hard work especially when you’re over 50.

100%

I recently did a nice Volvo which hadn’t been cleaned on the inside for 3 years since it was new. f**k me it was diabolical. Interior alone took almost 2 hours

£180 per wheel I assume, otherwise I may need to re-assess how much I thought it would cost to have my wheels sorted.

No that is for the 3 wheels doing - he is a good friend too.

I only paid £100 to do my Trophy wheels and that was because I pushed the money to him to get the lads there dinner.

Stunning Job too.

I might do some phoning around then, the 19s on my RS3 are a bit tired, diamond cut, not corroded just a few scuffs. I was assuming I'd not get much change from £800 so I was putting it off. £100 a wheel even would be a no brainer.

Anyone ever seen a leather wheel go like this? I’m assuming terrible quality ‘leather’

FYI I think I’ve washed it once in 50k miles

My old 5 series was like that. I couldn’t decide it it was filth or worn. I wasn’t brave enough to clean it with anything more than a damp cloth in case it was just worn and I totally fucked it

Anyone got a longer pressure washer hose? I’m using the standard one from the nilfisk and it’s just too short. Seeing them all the time online but looking for someone’s experience of them.

Anything from here mate had mine for years proper quality hose and connections.

Washing the car at 4am because f**k doing it in this heat 😂

Saddo like me then. I was up at 5am waxing the bodywork on my missus old Tucson before it gets collected 🤣

I've Just done the same with the Missus car when I got to work - however not as early as you Chaps - I'm now sat in my office with the aircon on full blast and deliberating staying the night.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve done some semi decent detailing. I got a good mate coming round over the weekend as he want his car doing. How much should I charge him for as just wants this doing

Stuff is gyeon and gtechic

Rinse
Snow Foam
Rinse
Decon Shampoo
Rinse
Hand wash
Iron remover
Tar remover
hand polish
Clean windows

Really depends how long you’ll be spending on it. If I’m doing friends cars I don’t tend to charge them but they’d inevitably give me a few quid. Hand polishing is awful though.

I’d say if you’re doing a proper job with that process it’s gonna take you 4 hours. No interior?

yeah sounds about right, time wise. I don't have a machine polisher, never had one. Yeah it'll be a proper job not kinda rushing. No no interior, hasn't been mentioned about that. It's been a lot of years since i charged people ie neighbours for just washing

Any help cleaning this sofa?

I've got a titan vac with this attachment. The grim from the sofa was just non stop and I couldn't clean it, do I need something different or a steam cleaner? It's been a while since I tried so I can't remember what solution I used with it.

What does a bissel spot clean pro offer over that?

Spot cleans are so much better than what you’re looking at.

They’re just made for the job so work so much better. I’ve removed stains from carpets in seconds with on

Think I've got enough applicators for a while, £5.99 delivered
