Nurburgring visit - need help!

I’ve booked to goto Frankfurt with a day at Nurburgring in March.

I’m flying to Frankfurt. I’m just struggling to make sense of it all.

Has anyone done this sort of trip? Ideally I’d love to do a ring taxi but the fees are eye watering, same with a couple laps in a rental.

Anyone with any knowledge to pass on? Can

It’s quite simple.

You go, buy a lap, and drive.

Obviously you not having a car complicates things so you would have to rent. Renting a car from the airport isn’t advisable, as the companies are keen on checking through photos.

Taxi laps are expensive yes. But what’s the alternative? Your only option really is to split the costs with mates.

I wouldn’t take a standard rental on track. I’m not a complete t**t😂.

I’d most likely rent a standard car to drive to the ring then a specialist rental or a ring taxi. Just seems so many companies out there. I’m going on a Friday and it looks like track time is only 5pm-630pm. Does that mean nothing moves on track other than those times? Can you still wander about otherwise?

There is plenty to do. Museum, visitor centre, nip into Adenau for some lunch etc. Can wander around the circuit as much as you like, and as noted above, it’s likely something will be going around - just not touristfahrten.

By the way, how track experienced are you? I wouldn’t be doing the ‘Ring on the Friday session in a hired track rental unfamiliar to you.

That session is pretty busy, especially if it’s good weather. People who have trailered stuff up for the weekend getting sighting laps / set up laps in coupled to lots of locals on way home from work wanting to start the weekend with a run. 😂

Don’t get me wrong I’d rather do the ring taxi for sure purely from a fear perspective if something went wrong on track.

I want to take the other half on the track with me and the ring taxi costs the same amount again just to have someone ride along which is annoying

Ring taxi is per car not per passenger.

Depending on what you want to go round in, you can get a taxi lap for under 200 quid

Are you sure? I had a look at the m3 and it had ‘per ticket’ which looks to be per person
The M3 or other performance salon car have the price per car. So if you and 2 mates book it, you pay the €350, or how much it is.

With a 911, M2, Merc, is not the same thing, as those are taking only 1 passenger at a time.

Done it multiple times mate. Some companies may be different, but I've only ever seen it priced per car when there.

We did the Genesis G60 or whatever it is last year, was 190 euro a lap if I remember right. Two of us in the car

M3 ring taxi experience i had was incredible. Was price for the car not per person though. I didn't know it had changed.

2 laps in a GT3 is probably not far from the same as buying a cheap 182, driving it there and back with 10 laps in between and then selling it on 🤣

That’s my 2p.

Yes, but you aren’t paying to be in a “GT3”. You’re paying to be driven around one of, if not the, worlds most challenging race circuits by a professional, in a GT3.

Unless you’ve been there and seen them in action, I don’t think you can really comment. They absolutely fly.

If you think you pottering around in a wheezy old French hatchback, comes anywhere close, you’re the kind of person who thinks 10 nights of shagging Katie Price is the same as one night with Margot Robbie.

Basically, knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing. X

Yep I've tried to convince some friends when we've been but we've just driven our own cars.

Hopefully this year I'll convince them!
I've not driven it since doing the taxis. Just don't see the point now that I've done it. Never gonna go faster, and there's zero liability

I’ll admit I hadn’t looked at prices properly till recently. Have the prices always been so high? I’m sure a few years back to go on track it was like €50 a lap or something

It’s always been a dream to go for me. I am buzzing to see it just don’t want to get it wrong and clearly as everyone can see, I’m a mong

Been there a few times, thanks.
But each to their own

Pay the money and get a taxi to take you around, it’ll be worth it. After last year my TF laps are done. I’d do a closed track day there, but it’s just mental on TF. You won’t be insured, the potential liability is insane as would any potential repairs to the circuit if you were found liable for damage.

Visiting the area itself is absolutely worth it. It’s bloody fantastic, I could happily sit there all day and enjoy the surroundings watching others enjoy the track

Doing a lap round the ring is probably one of the best things I’ve ever done, i f**king love it more than I can explain.
If you hit a busy lap then you just have to take it steady and enjoy the scenery, experience and accept you maybe can’t push like you want.

I’ve done probably 6 trips and maybe 80+ laps and I’ve had 3 that have been almost completely clear by pure chance and it’s incredible. Makes all the frustrating laps more than worth it.

If I wasn’t driving my car there I’d pay the money for a good passenger ride to have the best view of what it’s like. I’ll be doing less laps in may and going round in a GT3 RS. I’ll never get the chance to own one so it’s the closest I’ll get to living that dream.

It’s also nowhere near as bad as people make out, most are respectful and the ones that aren’t just get out of the way asap and don’t get in some drama Just because you don’t want to be over taken. If you get held up then just chill out and forget about the pace.

If you drive within your limits it’s no more dangerous than the drive to work.

I found it unbelievably stressful 😂

However once it was done I could barely remember a thing. I think I had built it up loads in my head. I'm a slow starter on track too and don't really get into it until 10 laps or so. But the added GT3 smashing past you at 200mph was a lot.

I had @Rob in with me and he was such a chilled passenger which helped a lot!

It wasn’t my driving I was worried about TBH! @Speedo Gonzales remember the M2 that nearly killed us!

Just got to have your eyes on stalks front and rear, gauge how quickly someone is catching and try to acknowledge and move safely. Unless you’re walking pace being hunted by a pro in a GT3RS there should be plenty of time nearly everywhere on track to see headlights closing well in advance.

Slowing down mid corner on the line is sketchy but plenty do it hence being cautious overtaking too. I won’t really overtake unless there’s an indicator or clear movement to let me through, I’d never try and squeeze into an apex unless its invited for me!

Im hardly a seasoned pro but other than one idiot I’ve had no notable problems other than ones I’ve caused myself, and still left enough margin to recover and not have a prang.

Early morning or weekday evenings are perfect, so much so we’re stopping for mon and Tues eve this year and not doing as much over the weekend.

I had my wits about me, he overtook me and missed my bumper by probably 2” but I was doing probably 100mph and he was moving faster. There was no need, other than that I’ve not had bad experiences. But it was enough of a scare for me not to want to lose a £35k car. It highlighted the risks! Last year was a significantly worse standard of driving and track etiquette than the year prior and I can’t see it getting much better as a consequence. The car parking, the queues to get on, the number of yellow flags.

Like I say, I’d happily send it on a track day there, TF for me anyway is done! I’d just recommend to anyone they go into it with their eyes wide open to the risks. You maybe courteous in your driving on the ring, but that’s not the case for so many people! It doesn’t matter how alert or cautious you are, it doesn’t counter the actions of others with small testes
