Halo: Campaign Evolved

Any love for this? It probably won't be out until Nov 2026 but I have my fingers crossed for it. It (the original) still remains one of the landmark games for me and I'm a massive Halo fan (as I've no doubt said before).

It will be interesting to se what tweaks are made to make it feel a little more modern, and to maybe introduce the game to others on non-Xbox/PC platforms.

I feel like I'm missing the point here. Hasn't it already been redone once for the MCC?

I'd much rather they made a decent new version from the ground up, rather than one that's limited by the map design / layouts of the original.

They released an anniversary edition, and then the MCC version - but that was an enhanced port rather than a remake. This is more of a major overhaul with gameplay mechanic tweaks, although I understand it is largely faithful to the original. Of course, the visuals and audio will be getting an overhaul (using the ubiquitous Unreal Engine 5).

This doesn't affect the new Halo game that is currently being developed.

I can't really complain. I paid for the Dawn of War Definitive Edition and that was arguably much less of an overhaul.

I think it’s a sensible/safe decision from halo studios. Get used to the new engine and how to make it feel like a halo game etc and get feedback on it which they can then transfer on to the entirely new game in the background. I like the fact they’ve added new missions which is a nice bonus and having some of infinite’s mechanics in CE will be a nice modern twist. I like CE as I’m old enough to have played when it was new and I’ve a lot of fondness for it. Will defo be buying.

Yeah will definitely give this a go. I still remember quite well running through it split screen with one of my mates at stupid hours. Going to be a major nostalgia hit playing this again. I only went and played a few missions on MCC when it came out.

When this came out originally, I played it through again and again and again. My (ex) wife was seriously ill with various conditions that would never be cured/treatable, and she wasn't in to games at all. However, she loved this game and we played co-op all the way through some 20+ times. I could have probably run the whole game blindfolded!

I did it on original release as a yoof, and then again just recently on MCC with my lad. Properly enjoyed 2 PC co-op missions with him, well, other than the f**king library, obviously.

Early release means you can start playing now if you stump up the 70 quid for the premium edition... 🫣 Well, you can through Xbox at least. I'm not sure about the PlayStation version.

Nope, it just says 49.99 on PS Store with a date end of July

I’ve got Xbox but having to wait for the physical edition to arrive which is the end of this week. I cannot wait. I love CE.
I’m up for co-op when it arrives if anyone else is at a loose end.

Yey!

Played it on early release (official launch is today). First thoughts:
- Legendary solo is hard. Really hard. Way harder than Infinite which I was playing in prep. Grunts 1 charge shot kills. Elite melee 1 hit kills and the volume of covenant in every section of the levels is insane.
- It’s very pretty but there are a few graphic glitches on Xbox, even in the first few cut scenes.
- I need to get better.

I understand that some of the above is being adjusted in the day 1 patch but a bit more needs to be done.

Yup, I went straight in on Legendary and it is a LOT harder! Ridiculously so! I got fed up of being blown up by grenades... which don't seem to "fizz" as they did originally. I used the "fizz" as an indicator to run like hell away. No I don't hear a thing and I'm blown 60ft into the air for the umpteenth time. :ROFLMAO:

So far I've had no issues on the PC version, but I'm not that far in. All running nicely at Ultra settings, although I might "hack" the ini file to disable the annoying chromatic aberration effect.

The screen wobble on the POA level is ridiculous, I couldn’t see what I was shooting half the time l, particularly when coupled with fluorescent blood and plasma splashes, it was a mess. The first part of the ring mission is fine but the section just before meeting foehammer is insane. The elites are bullet sponges and I couldn’t get the hit register on the Jackels to trigger the shield to open for the headshot (I understand that is also being corrected). I will plough on with Legendary initially then drop it down for the next play through with my son.
I particularly don’t like the plasma grenades being nerfed. Hit a great sticky shot on an elite and you still need to pump them full of lead before they do down!
The mods on PC that are available already are brilliant (from what I’ve seen). In a few months I reckon they will make it an incredibly fun game.
Despite all the above, I’m really enjoying it. It “feels” like halo CE, looks incredible and with a few tweaks by Halo Studios, it will be brilliant.
I would guess they rushed the last part to beat GTA and the above complaints didn’t have time to be sorted.

I knocked it down to normal difficulty briefly to go terminal and skull hunting on the new missions (which are a bit meh). I am missing one and I can't find the damn thing! :ROFLMAO:

Agree on the Legendary though. I swear I stuck three plasmas on an Elite and he still survived. Well, he did, and took me out as he ran at me as the last grenade exploded. :ROFLMAO:
