3,304 days ago since I owned a Renault ..

For no other reason than idle curiosity I wanted to know what horrors were waiting for me behind the exterior door plastics.

It appears that nothing of any concern is the answer. Dirt and that’s it.

It took a near hurculean amount of strength to get them off but a gentle touch was all that’s needed to put them back on.

Dirt is gone , sides are back on. Win.

Fitting that was fun.

Side 1 : 1h30

Side 2 : 15mins

I could not for the life of me work out how to get the new pads back in with the little slide metal. Spent 35 minutes looking , removing pads , putting pads back in , scouring with wire wheel to remove corrosion on the carrier.

I then took the carrier off, fitted on a bench and refitted.

Other side was a piece of cake.

Will test drive tomorrow and see if I can stop or not.

The bearing on the nearside rear was absolutely shot to pieces. Spinning the bearing evidenced what felt like grit and also a suprising amount of lateral movement. Much more than the other side.

Why did one side take considerably longer than the other? Yet to do mine at some point and it’s been a good few years since I have changed rear pads on a Clio.
