Cant believe what i saw on the M4 today

Car  Cupra 300 ST 4drive
Whilst driving home today on the M4 westbound at J45 swansea, in the eastbound outside lane was a 172 CUP TOWING a trailer with a Caterham race car on it, it looked as if he was bloody flying along , one of the most bizarre sights i have seen in a long time:approve:

The car is not homologated for towing.

You would expect a car enthusiast to know better.

Illegal because the Cup and other RenaultSport models have no type-approval for towing. :)

how do you mean?
as in not made for towing such a heavy load, or not for towing anything in general?

or is it that when you search clio there isn't one available for a cup?

am i missing something?

Pepsi..No not your fault, its the site wouldnt allow me to paste the link to the search, but I cut and pasted now.
If you want to see the original, just fill in Renault and Clio.

Baldylocks ; I thought that was strange too, they are concerned about a brake balancer and completely missed an illegal towbar ! :S

The Cup shell is the same as the none RS shell and the 172/182 shell its just not type approved to tow but since the cars are the same you can fit a toe bar just like a standard none RS could have. Most polaces don't know and dealers have been known to fit tow bars before now. Its not just a Renault though Skoda VRs is the same but dealers fit tow bars

If you'd be careful you'd have seen there infact two Cups towing Caterham racer out there. both very similar registrations there in the series.

Is the towbar illegal? I know towing is, but fitting a towbar may not be illegal. Some bike racks can be towball mounted, would this be considered a legal use?

What does a Cup weigh Edde ? and any idea what a Caterham and trailer stack up to ?

ah right i see, thanks people!

its things like this that made someone come up with the phrase 'every day is a school day'

When I had the primera I'd done the maths. 440kg for Striker, 300kgs for Brian James trailer. I know the Striker was light because of the bike lump.

There's a Trophy around somewhere with a towbar, somebody took a picture of it parked up in a space with a trailer hitched to it, it's an absolutely shocking sight :(
