Need confirmation before I go to garage (172 Cup)

Right i have done a search before i get flamed and previous advice is not really clear.

Problem is under hard acceleration in 1st, 2nd and 3rd there is a knocking/banging sound only happens when flooring it and not if i hold revs at a certain level. Also if i tap accelerator for a sec and lift off also makes banging sound. It is quite loud as well.

My understanding is it could be a couple of things...

1. Dogbone mount?
2. Exhaust knocking on heat shield?
3. Engine mounts?


Could do with some advice as i know what garages are like? Cheers

why not do the dog bone upgrade your self ?

I had very similar fault after a crash i had and all the engine mountings had worked loose under the battery and all renault did was tighten the back up and havent had any probs since may be worth checking with a spanner first.

Moved house recently and all my tools are in storage at moment. Is this what you think it is?

Again, unless i buy another one will not be able to do it. Might be worth £15 as oppose to getting renault to check.

good chance its the engine mounts.......

Get round a mates and borrow some tools ?

well it wasn't a big prob but it freaked me out when driving it it was one hell of a bang and it didn't allways happen.

Right Halfrauds for a set of spanners then a session of tightening see if that sorts it. Failing that to renault for a new dogbone mount. Cheers for replies.

i think it could be your exhaust manifold joint to the cat hitting the heatshield above the steering rack.

i have changed all the mounts and still get the noise, although 90% of it was cured. Try bending the heatshield away from the exhaust while you do your spanner check.

That was my dads first impression, that it was the exhaust. Im such a lazy b*****d, have booked it into Renault at 3pm for a diagnoistic test. Can't be arsed fiddling with it.
