Xbox Wireless Question?

Is there a cheaper way to get hooked up to the internet wirelessly on the xbox rather than buying their wireless router thing for £50??

I know you can get an ethernet cable but it would mean feeding it from the spare room through to my bedroom!

got wireless laptop?

You can hook the xbox to the laptop with an ethernet and then bridge the connection making the laptop the wireless adaptor.

Have to say I bit the bullet and bought the dongle!

Whilst a laptop bridge would work the hassle of having to fire up windows, update it etc and set up the bridge everytime I wanted to quickly jump on xbox live was just too much!

Dont have to setup the bridge every time, once its running it works perfectly well. f**k spending £60 on something I can have for free.

Though tbh I run it on ethernet cable now as the router sits on top of the xbox now lol

> plug ethernet cable from xbox to your laptop,
> Start > Control Panel > Internet & Networks..
> Manage networks, and you can then see your Wireless icon,
> right click > properties > Sharing tab on top > then tick the first box " allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection" and ok,

Go to xbox, and try and join live,

mines doing, but keeps disconnecting ffs

Theres a few videos on youtube for doing it. Works well and once set up thats it, dont need to create the bridge every time.

You can run a cable from PC to xbox - i did it for a week but found the connection a bit dodgy as my PC doesn't always get the best connection.

You can buy a wireless bridge, i got one brand new off e-bay for £20 and it's not dropped a connection once.

Saves having to have PC on when playing x-box etc.

Here's the link - try messaging the seller and see if he's got any left.

Piece of piss to set up too. Connects to your xbox via ethernet and gets power from the USB on the xbox.

Will need to watch your firewall settings too, when i did it i had to fully switch off my firewall, not good.

BT homeplugs FTW!!

Like having a direct line but through the houses electric wires so you can have internet wherever there is a plug socket! :D

That's because what you're doing there is essentially setting up the "Internet Connection Sharing" PC as a router. The Windows Firewall and the Routing and Remote Access service both use a file called ipnat.sys, which means both services can't be running at the same time.
You should still be able to run other third party firewall software though, such as ZoneAlarm or McAfee, so if it doesn't work you haven't configured the firewall correctly.

Tried both those firewalls and it never worked, but tbh glad i bought the bridge instead, means i dont have to turn the PC on to play XBL.

Thanks for all the info guys... Im going to start with connecting it to my laptop and then probably get a wireless thing at christmas if I decide to get gold membership (undecided yet seeing as I have a ps3 aswell)

Ok, little problem, ive done exactly what the video and tried what everyone has said... Its not working though! As soon as I allow sharing in the local network, it wont let me access the internet! :S
Anybody have any idea what it is? Ive had a look on my security (Kapersky) and I cant see an option on there to change network sharing settings?!?!

Swtich your firewall off first to see if its the firewall causeing the problem.

We got it connected up and then it came with a pop-up saying you need to download an update otherwise you cannot proceed...
It then said that it cannot download the update :S ...
Could this maybe be because im not signed up to xbox live yet?
