Best place for inlets and a map

Thinking of getting some inlets with PTFE gaskets and a remap to match up with my exhaust, decat and inlets.

Not sure whom to use and what price to expect.

Have been quoted £180+VAT for inlets with PTFE gaskets and fitting (I asked for a price on all of it so think that's the case) and £200+VAT for a remap.

Seems ok to me?

If you are confident with hands, DIY. And if you play the effort can get best results as no one will put more effort on your stuff than you, unless you can get CNC'd ones, which would be better.

cnc'd ones arent any better....head casting variations make it pretty much impossible to get them all c**k on.

The £180+vat wasnt including ptfe gaskets sorry Jamie.

Few random comments:

I'm not good with my hands so will not be attempting such!

£500 for inlets, map and induction kit? What i/k is it?

PM'd you back on WC.

i have a set of awt inlets and ptfe gaskets you can have for £150 if you are interested?

^ I heard AWT provided an *excellent* matched inlet service?

My car has also been serviced by AWT at a few points in it's life. In fact, the previous owner was pretty gushing about them! :S

"synonymous with failure" - as you intimate, that's subjective - but it'd be interesting to know about the personal experience that made you form this opinion?

I have got ktec to send the lads at birchdown some inlets to fit and then send mine back to ktec. Cant remember the price now but it saves having to have to do it myself and faff about sending my inlets back to ktec. Getting done at same time as 48k service.

LOL, dont ask, can of worms right here pal....

LOL, as Stan says, can of worms, but long story short: nearly two months to install some cams, never got the clear timing cover I paid for, never got the verniers I paid for (they were then fitted to someone else's car), never got the group N mounts, put a hole in my sump, badly refitted and oil pump damaged and bottom end seized, new engine was needed, ignored emails, calls, PM's etc. I ended up out of pocket.

Maybe inlets are something you cant go too far wrong with, but I personally would steer well clear.

SBV had his car royally fucked up by him. He even paid an upfront deposit to build it and it never got done. Took about a year to get his car back and nothing had been done. Bloody awful.

I wouldn't go to AWT for anything.

Yeah, thinking of going to Stan or JMS. Quite like the look of JMS package of map, inlets and airfilter for £500 ish.

wouldn't bother with PTFE myself

kungfu - are you ever going to change the record? when's your bus coming to see me anyway ;)

Personally, I've never used them, so can't comment from experience. To play Devil's advocate, I just wanted to delve a little deeper (all too many people on CS paraphrase - incorrectly) and I wanted to cut out the bullsh!t.

After reading KFS's report above though, I would steer clear. :)

JMS are my people of choice anyway!

Nope, people should be warned about him, he's a scammer. I did warn Icarus too, but got a load of abuse instead... he's also out of pocket. I may be a cnut, but I'm honest!
Well, I'll have to pop over soon just to catch up anyway mate, but at the moment the shed is off the road at 2 live tuning... :(

I've been used by them if that counts? :P

My story is a happy one compared to some though mate lol

Cant comment on other tuning companies though, never been to them.

As far as I know JMS dont do live mapping included that package...

So if you wanted a live/custom map on a Dyno to make the most of all your mods you'd need to go to somewhere like RSTuning/Tour-De-Force etc.

No, they supply a map file which has been calibrated to generically suit these mods...this is fine...especially given the price difference.

Jamie, why dont you just get a V6 airbox then take it to Chip Wizards? I've decided to take mine there now, as his results on 2 live's, the Nana and Chris' car speak for themselves. We may be able to get some group discount too, as he normally charges £400 (but you pay for what you get I suppose!)

wayne is second to none for mapping imho.

most of the 'tuners' will give you reasons not to go there, but they are just after your business.

i have insisted that KFS's car goes there for a decent mapping session. i have no doubt at all that it will be a much much nicer car to drive, and quite probably a bit quicker to boot.....once the shoddy workmanship on the charger bracket is sorted and a new clutch is installed itl be heading to the wizard of chips .

15 diff outright championship wins last season alone prove his work is good, and very reliable...and thats overall class wins.....unlike some of the tuners on here.

I'll get mine from Stan, and get the kevs to fit mine when funds allow! Needs a bit of paint first

as above...chip wizards is THE place to go for a decent map. end of really. hes not a salesman, he doesnt advertise, he doesnt big himself up............he doesnt need to. his reputation is all word of mouth and very very well deserved

Makes the car pull a little better, but the gains again are minimal. 3-5bhp max...

Couple, Exhaust, Decat, Maxogen, Inlets and Map and you're looking at 16bhp increase.
