High-Revving, multi-cylinder appreciation thread

People

I'm reading more and more that we'll all soon be driving 1-litre, wind-assisted shopping trolleys with a probable red-line of about 4k.

As someone once said "there's no replacement for displacement". Maybe that's not quite strictly true, providing you've got enough cylinders and revs to make up for it.

Hell, I'll not even adverse to Superchargers, at least they make a decent soundtrack.

Anyway, stand up and be counted, for all you out there who long for even just a V6 with just 7k on the dial, post your memories and wants here.

We can't allow brussels to silence every motor, think of the pedestrian health and safety issues!

All that and you didn't even post a picture! :(

It saddens me that the RS' 2.5 5-pot is being dumped. It is an awesome engine. Revs to 7k which is good considering it's blown, and in MP350 form, it spins to that redline with Type R enthusiasm and smoothness, but with a mountain of torque, and a soundtrack that makes God afraid. The downside is that it drinks petrol like LY drinks wine. The future isn't especially bright for petrol heads :(

Turn everything up to eleven and sit back.

Two litre straight six @ 9000rpm. In the Seventies. Wait until the bent music ends.

I miss my TVR, sideways through a tunnel with my mate letting him hear the POWER! Also overtaking Ali in his V6 on the Autobahn after he topped out! ;)

If you're gonna have a compressor on your engine, it's got to be cyclic

beast sounds like the skyline somebody posted before as its the same engine set up

You can have all the revs and cylinders in the world, but you're still going to get more power if you put a turbo on there alongside those revs ;)

Not far off 10K rpm

Yeah, but turbos are still cheating :)
Superchargers, that's different, mind.

Anyway, having loads of cylinders, and the revs, AND some compression, that's alright.

it's these 0.1 litre turbos that we'll be told are "sporting" in a couple of years time which are the problem

So explain how a supercharger isn't cheating, but a turbocharger is cheating? You take your typical vtec lump. Bang a supercharger on it and that's fine, but bang a turbo on it, and it's not? WTF!
