Im back in a RS 172 (Monaco)

  172 Cup
After about a year and a half after selling my clio 172, and a few cars i decided i would buy another RS Clio one night while trying to sleep, the next day i found my self on a train to Milton Keynes to go and view one that had come up for sale during that night and was going pretty cheaply. (it will need a bit of work as ill explain later.

It was another Monaco, and was raining in Milton Keynes, had a good look round the car and decided to leave a deposit, i didnt test drive it as i was happy with the way it felt on the way back to the guys house, it was a Wednesday and we agreed id return on the Saturday to pick it up.

So On the friday i decided i couldnt wait any longer so i once again found myself on a train to MK. When i first pulled away i instantly remembered why i missed my last one so much.

Anyway here is the car, apologies for the frosty pictures, but of an evening its too dark, and early morning its frosty.

Lack of a RS badge on the boot lid.

The steering wheel suffers the same fate as many others

The gear gator needs gluing down

Engine bay

So the to do list as follows:
  1. Give the engine bay a good clean
  2. Clean the interior carpets
  3. Buy an RS badge for the boot lid
  4. Glue the gear gator down
  5. Get new thumb grips from KTR, when they are making them again
  6. Change the Discs and Pads all round (they are pretty low)
  7. Get the Exhaust heat sheild re attached as it rattles at higher revs
  8. Refurb and spray the alloys in anthracite also the Bullets and rear badges.
  9. Eventually get some new rubber Toyo TR1 Proxes, the current tires aint the best.
The car has done 83k with limited history but all the MOTs and is in really good condition it drives and feels solid through all the gears and for £1950 i think its a really good buy. It has had the cambelt and everything done recently by the previous owner non other than Beaniemoo (the guy with the epic Mk1 172 Throttle bodied Clio build thread) so i dont think ill have any worries about the belts.

It has a few dings on the drivers door but nothing i cant live with.

All in all im very pleased and enjoying being back in a RS clio ive done 260 miles in 3 days haha. Ill attempt a thread where i can update the changes as the occur shortly.

Mine would have been a much better buy (see for sale section) but you seem happy so it's all good :)

Sleeper lol, bumper gives it away to other RS owners but to everyone else yes could surprise a few haha

Just had a look at yours funnily enough, i sold my last one for £2800 couldnt pay more for another one. Yours is £1049 more than what i paid, could put that towards ITBs, ill get this one upto scratch its nice to have a car that needs a few bits doing to it, for the satisfaction once its how you want it.

Good luck with your sale though mate. And yes i agree Monaco's are the best colour

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Just needs a damn good clean and a few minor things doing by the look of her. Looks like previous owner fell out with her towards the end. Perfect excuse to get the newer RS badge IMO.

This is the thing I'm gonna struggle with when looking again. Really want another PHS1 I think, but considering spec of phase 2's and that there are now more and more around 2k mark, tempted to go for newer car...

Ill be giving the car a good cleaning, just need the rain to ease off, im hoping the weekend will be dry and sunny so i can get cracking. I probably will go for the Newer RS badge looks smarter IMO.

I think if you can get a PH2 for around 2k with good mileage then you should, i dont like a few things with the PH1s the interior namely the steering wheel and the rear bumper, one thing i do love though is the front bumper! but as you say the spec on the PH2s are superior and the interiors better. But each to their own. Theres a nice looking PH1 for sale atm in the for sale section for £1250 not a fan of the alloys though.
