Well I'm gunna fess up and say it took me a full day to do my first oil change.

That did include going to the shops for an oil filter removal tool, and when that didn't work (it just made a mangled mess of the filter which was seized on tight), I had to read up on the internet about what the hell to do. In the end the solution was bang a long screwdriver through the casing and twist.
It was a bit of a difficult job for a complete newcomer tbh.

The only other way I can see it taking that long is if you wreck the thread tightening the sump plug, never done it myself but read about a newbie who did
