Football Manager 2012

I just won the league, now us and Utd both sit on 20 titles...

Still haven't cracked the Champions league, my best effort so far this year with a semi final loss to eventual winners, Real Madrid :(

I don't know who to sign as I'm pretty happy with my squad and can't find anyone worthy... might be time to head for Swindon.

My team are doing brilliantly this season :) Sitting second in the league after 23 games, only lost 2 matches (to dirty mackems and Man United). Still 11 points behind United though, they are untouchable! I bought in a new keeper (Handanovich iirc) who is fantastic and keeping clean sheets this season as opposed to conceding a goal a game, just need to turn the draws into wins as I have 8/9 draws I think so far. Playing 4-2-3-1 formation now as I overloaded on attacking midfielders :). Been taken over too which has given us some decent money :D

Not sure how I'm going to catch United or close the gap next season though, Hernandes seems to score a stupid amount of goals :S

This season is going to be a struggle.
Still got next to no money, no links with other clubs - so I can't loan anyone without paying moronic wages and loan fees, and have lost two key(ish) players already for peanuts.

Balls.

I've logged some serious hours in to this game on my week off work lol...

3rd season I won the league finally and also the FA Cup again. Lost to Barca in the Champs League quarters.

4th season was so close to epic. Ultimately bitterly disappointing. Lost the league by 1 point. 2 of my last 4 games were Arsenal at home and Liverpool away and I managed to lose both and didn't pick up the single point needed FFS. Then the champions league. I had Barca in the quarters again. Beat them 2-0 at home. Away, I'm 3-0 down at HT. Gave the team a bollocking and Hernandez hits a 2nd half hattrick. We end up losing 4-3 but winning 5-4 on aggregate. I then easily dispose of AC Milan in the semi's and face Atletico Madrid in the final. Really expected to win as their team certainly wasn't fantastic. But despite taking a lead we go down 2-1. Should really have done the treble but FM's in built f**k you over engine took over! :dapprove:

Finally! 5th season with United and won the Champs League. Also won the league so nice to do the double. Hernandez is stupidly good set as a poacher. About 57 goals in all appearances for the season.

Me and a mate doing a mini challenge and both managing a "mid table team" and seeing who can do the best. We've decided on Everton.

Im looking for a bit of info on the installation and running of the game.

I have always played FM for years and years, but didnt get 2011. I have been looking at getting 2012 but after reading several reviews I have heard it is simply a pain in the arse.

You now need Steam to activate the game and to play the game, meaning you need an internet connection everytime you play it, is that right? or is there some form of offline mode?? I have read endless reviews saying that it took people weeks to actually get the game installed and be able to play it, are these people just complete mongs or is it really that much of a mission?? I have a steam account so that isnt a problem, but do you really need an internet connection to play the game?

If anyone that actually plays it could give me some real info and hopefully silence these criticisms i would be very greatful

Cheers

Nah

Start Steam up, put it into Offline Mode, no need for internet then

Why would you not have internet on all the time anyway?

The people that complain about Steam on the official FM forums are complete and utter mongs

  LY 182
I'm always connected at home but I'm sure Steam has an offline mode?

I just got the game from Amazon. Put it in to the Mac, entered the activation key found in the box and was playing about 10 minutes later. People saying it took weeks to get the game installed and playing are, I can confirm, officially mongs.

  Focus ST-3
I thought that would be the case, surely it cant be that hard, but just wanted to confirm.

The reason I wouldnt have an internet connection all the time is because it would be nice to be able to play it on my laptop when in areas of no internet etc, most the time it wont be a problem as I will be at home but its just nice to know.

Shall be buying it this weekend then, its now only £17 on amazon, absolute bargain for the amount of game time it will get!!!!!

  LY 182
Crikey £17 is a massive bargain. I played it a stupid amount of hours in my week off work and according to Steam have racked up about 110 hours on the game already! :clown:

  Focus ST-3
I downloaded the demo off steam last night and then going to buy it on saturday (yes im too tight to pay the extra £9 to download off steam)

It says that you can then carry on the saved game from the demo into the full version when you get it. It seems like the demo has a limited DB, will this be updated to the full DB when i activate the full game? or will I need to start a new game?

  Focus ST-3
Best to start a new game, for the sake of a few hours play tbh

In that case I wont play it again untill i get the full game, as I like to really get stuck into pre-season and could easily rack up 20 hours before I play my first game of the season!!! I dont want to be doing all of that twice!!!

My team has started the new season in fine form with 5 wins from the first 5 scoring 23 and only conceding 5, and winning the first 2 Champs league games easily vs Roma and Fenerbache.. Using a new formation this year (was 4-2-3-1 now 4-2-2-2 purely because of my young English striker to get game time) and I'm at the point where a couple of the 16/17 year olds I brought for the future are now 19 and I'm bedding them into the team this season and they are doing great :) Love buying the youngsters for a couple mill and training them up! The best one is still only 17/18 though and raping the U18s and reserves league last 2 years xD might screenie him he is going to be something special and his stats are already class for a striker! :D He's Greek though which is a waste :(

  LY 182
Aye I love getting the scouts set up and finding all the class regens and getting them developed. I've not touched the game recently, need to crack on with my Everton challenge I'm doing with a mate.

  I love Lamp
Yeah exactly lol, the first thing I do is get 3 scouts in with the max potential I can find and send them off and just find youth lol.. On FM10 I had a guy called Guisseppe Longo and he signed him at 16 and he stayed with my Newcastle team for 10 seasons then I went Lazio and signed him for the rest of his career there, there's something really satisfying about it haha xD Won world player of the year 5 times and was best striker I've ever had on a game, miss old Longo :'(

  LY 182
Haha. On FM11 in my Man Utd save I got offered the Bayern job after about 5 seasons so took it up. Needed a striker and found this Argentinian regen called Crespo. Not sure if he was based on Hernan Crespo but he was absolutely lethal well over a goal a game average.

My best regen in FM12 with United at the mo is this AML/Striker from Argentina again called Gonzalez. Bloody good and cost me less than a million IIRC.

  Focus ST-3
duuno just not enjoying FM12 as much as I have other years

I felt the same after 2009, loved it so much, played it all the time, then got 2010 and never really got into it, probably played in for about 24 hours then never again. Because of that i didnt buy 2011, but after playing 2012 i'm back... I've got the itch again, been thinking about it all day haha, tempted to take tomorrow off work to play it. The Mrs has lost me for a good few weeks I think..

  I love Lamp
Haha yeah I played mine for ages then go into a month or 2 of not touching it then can't leave it alone again.. On FM10 I set my game to go on holiday over a weekend and so was playing with all regens in the year 2070 or something, I was 96 years old and winning trophys, beat that Fergie :)

  LY 182
Still fricking love this game. Best part of it for me is you can just be totally chilled playing it. Something like COD I need to be proper focused and right up by the TV etc, where as this I can just chill and play wherever, check the web while a game is playing, etc. Steam says I've clocked abotu 145 hours of game time now, rolf.

Me and a mate are doing a challenge with Everton to see who can do the best. In my mind they've got a decent squad just lack some depth and don't have much money so selling and having some success is the best way really.

My first moves were to controversially offload Cahill and Fellaini. Got about £18m for the pair and whilst the b*****d board only gave me approx half that back in to the transfer budget that was enough to sign some great youth prospects. I also got Kranjcar on loan too which left me with a decent starting line up but still a worry about the depth. Despite early exits in both the league and FA Cup (still adamant the game boosts the opposition's quality big time in these matches) I was far exceeding expectations in the league and found myself in a cosy 4th spot. After 24 games I was actually 10 points clear of 5th place and dreaming of the Champions League. However we really lost our way after that point and mainly due to a lack of goals. Saha and Sanogo up front just were not firing. In the end we finished 6th which I was happy enough with, I think Champions League would have been too soon but would of still been nice especially the extra money. But a season of Europa should still be a laugh.

Signed about 7 or 8 players ready for the 2nd season. Pretty much all young prospects. Several players I tried to sign had no interest in joining the club so it looks like we're gonna have to secure Champions League football before we can attract the top players. Having said that, I've secured plenty of the young gems of the game that should hopefully see us mount another serious attempt for a top 4 finish.

Clocked up about 5 hours last night after not playing for ages

Not doing too well this season, sat in 3rd place between Arsenal and Citeh :(

Will play this tonight as didn't get on it since wednesday :(

I'm currently sitting top after 24 games, 1 point above Chelsea and 2 above City.. Just lost my wonderkid English striker for 3-4 months though :( It's partly gutting as I love the lad and he was my main striker with Hernandez(Abel) this year and was coming on massively but also it's actually made us better as he is currently only a 2.5/3 star rating where as my back ups are Vela and Leandro(another wonderkid ;)) so my strikers are improved but I miss the boy :(..

Just played first knockout round of champs league too and lost 3-2 first leg to Madrid(away from home) pleased with that and we have a half decent chance to go through but the league is my focus this year

Won Carling Cup final, lost in FA Cup final to Spurs (after beating them 6-2 a few days before), lost Champs League final to Real Madrid (after losing Rooney, Hernandez and De Gea a week before). Won the league on goal difference

Pretty shitty season

  LY 182
Lol unlucky bud. I just got properly fucked over in my Everton game. Signing youth prospects really, not just for the future but for the fact it's not really possible to sign any of the older good players on the game as they think they can do better lol. Anyway, have an epic start to my 2nd season. Hammer Villa 6-0 at home and Blackburn 4-0 away. Then I go to play WBA at home and about 8 of my 1st team, probably 5/6 of my preferred starting 11 are away on international duty (presumably the olympics). I could only field 3 f**king subs lol, what a pisstake. Lose 1-0 at home to WBA, then getting the players back I go away to newly promoted Reading. Lose 2-1. FOR f**k SAKE!

I think the game has gone a bit too far with the regens

The past few seasons I've got 4 homegrown regens with ridiculous PA, and I've bought another 5 from abroad :p

I got this a few weeks back and started a season with Newcastle.

Lost my first game away at Stoke 7-0 and my second game 4-0 to Citeh LOL!

Doing ok now though, it's January and I'm sat 8th in the league. Struggling to find some decent players that actually want to join me.

That's why you need to find the young gems that'll be happy to play for you!

Yup! My scouts seem to find such terrible youngsters though, that have bags of potential but little ability. That's great, but I need players right now, not for 2-3 seasons time that will just get shipped out on loan in the mean time.

  LY 182
Haha yeah. It doesn't seem to be quite so comprehensive for FM12 players wise but there's enough to get you going.

In my Everton save I signed this young Italian striker Alberto Paloschi on a free transfer from Chievo. Made his debut up front on his own against Villa at home amd banged in 4! :hail:

My best signing of last season was Rodwell

Scored on his debut, bought him in the January transfer window, played 27 times from then

Going to be an awesome player teamed up with Cleverley

Bit pissed off with virtual Man City.. they beat me to Hazard.. I offered 37mil and 120k a week.. they offered 37mil and 190k a week

:/

I have the spare cash for wages, but 190k is mental :p

  LY 182
Yeah Rodwell has been great for me with Everton. Barkley is starting to progress and will be better than Rodwell I think.

I've always loved Hazard on the game but couldn't justify signing him with United as I already had 3 or 4 quality players in that role lol.

Wanted to sign Rodwell, but surprise surprise Everton wanted mega money!

Demba Ba is actually very good on the game, if you can pick him up fairly cheap (aimed more at you Mr Pants as Everton) then he is a great signing.
