Project: BMW E21.

When your ready you can send off a bag of bits to get plated, they do "clear" (sliver to us) or yellow (gold to us) for about £30.
Its not worth spray painting tbh as it wont last (bits like door catches)

I got my Clio wheel bolts done while my wheels where away being powder coated, that was almost 2 years ago now and they still look like new.

Great project btw, your doing a cracking job.

Sounds decent, once it's up and running I'll then start "tarting it up" I did originally want to rebuild it to a minty fresh condition, but I've quickly realised that it'll be a long wait if I do it that way! So for now, it'll just have to be 'very nice' then in time, I'll get it fully mint.

Did loads today, would love to be able to share a good update with you, but I forgot to put my card in the camera, and was taking plenty of photos, but not saving them.

/Death.

Anyway, got the wings hung and fitted much better than yesterday, the drivers one sits a little out, and the gap isn't as even as I'd like. I'll look into it another day though.

The only two pics from my iPhone:

Yeah I took the first one and thought that the fact the bonnet was open and lack of indicator ruined it. I then corrected both and it didn't look half as good so I stuck with that one lol.

Cracking progress, I'm upset about the lack of pictures though.

If I lived closer you'd not be able to get rid of me, I'd love to work on something like this.

As I say, I forgot to stick my CF card in my camera :(

I'll get some shots of what I did and whack them up :)

As above, would love a project like this!

Coming along nicely.

Do you have a Canon? My Nikon wont let me take a picture without the card in lol!

Loads of progress it seems though! Dat colour.

So, it's starting to look more and more like a car!

Yesterday was glass day, got all but the passenger door and the windscreen in.

First up, clean the glass with some white spirit, eraser and Tardis:

The cleaned the seal up a little bit, and offered it up:

Making sure I'm extra careful, wouldn't want to lose the original glass:

Some YouTube videos gave me a good idea of how to use the "string method" to pop the windows into the car.

Got the drivers door mechanism in, so it opens and closes correctly, only issue is the door won't lock when closed to the car. It'll lock if the door is open and you mechanically close the latch, so we think it's an alignment issue.

Also grabbed some photos of the painted drums:

Still a mountain to climb, but it's getting there :)

Fitting your own glass eh?

Is it relatively simple? Not something worth getting someone who does it for a living to spend 2 hours doing the whole car? Or are you worried about damage or similar?

Cracking progress either way though, really awesome read.

It's a lot easier on older motors Rob.

Haha!

If you could see how tight they are.

As I've just had something colourfully represented to me by Chris, they're "as tight as a Scottish man's wallet."

Shouldn't be going anywhere.

Did you use the proper tool to get the glass in the rubber or did you use the old screwdriver trick? I nearly stabbed myself in the eye when I was doing the ones in my old mini

String to pull the seal in, and then the little bits that didn't quite come through, used a screwdriver.

Very nearly put it through the rear screen!

I do have a proper tool, but I couldn't work out how to use it, and impatience had settled in for the day, I wanted it done!

Fair play for tackling the glazing yourself. Guarantee I'd have smashed them into a million tiny pieces, lost my rag and ended up ruining the bodywork with a foot or something similar.

Got a few things done today.

Door handles were a bit crappy, so sanded them up and gave them a quick lick of paint.

They could probably do with being powdercoated, but they'll do for now.

Satin paint on the handles! Light mist if lacquer will protect them, orC1.

I want this car. I f**king love the oem nature of it but the fiddling t**t in me wants to straight 6. / v8 it!

I take it the paint isn't being sorted then?

He's coming next week, I'm taking the gamble he won't need to take the car apart again. Last thing I want to do is lose a weekend and not do anything, just for him to say he would have been fine to mask up and respray/whatever.
