How tough is the 172 Gearbox and clutches.

The gearbox is the most fragile part of a 172. It is barely strong enough for the standard engine. It is what makes it questionable to turbo a 197. And even a lot of people with standard cars have trouble with the gearbox.

    6 speed gearbox????

Anything will fit if you have a big enough hammer, or a big enough cheque book. If you are asking whether its a practicable conversion, the answer is most definitely not. First of all it won't bolt up to the block you have. And secondly its too long.

    Correct bhp?

The power loss depends on a lot of things. The revs, the throttle opening, the gear you're in, the size of the tyres, the tyre pressures. If you're talking about the power loss at maximum power 20% is too high a number for a 182 Cup. The experts, the people in the car manufacturers and dyno...

    Towbar for cup 172

The car manufacturer can approve towing or not for each model. Renault chose to allow towing on all the Clios, except the Sports models. And it made a towbar that fits them, all including the Sport. So you can buy a towbar, and you can get it fitted, but you can't legally tow with it. You could...

Laughing at those electric superchargers on eBay

http://www.autocarmagazine.com/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/232017/ Superchargers look set to become the next mechanical car component to go electric after a British company unveiled plans for a blower powered by an electric motor. Instead of being driven off the engine by a belt, like a...

SUDDEN TOTAL POWER LOSS - HELP

The glowing embers indicate its not most of the things suggested.

    I seem to have a Clio 162 :(

123.8 bhp at the wheels does NOT correspond to 162 bhp at the flywheel. That's way to high an amount of power (23.6%) to be lost in the drivetrain in a transverse front wheel drive car. The right number is about 15%, or even lower. What that says is that there's serious questions about that...

    No, its not, 169.65 bhp.

Varley Redtop 25 battery under the passenger seat with fia cutoff

It surely would. Good place to put it. That takes it out of the engine compartment, taking weight off the front wheels and leaving space for a intake that goes straight into the throttle body. And it puts the weight of the battery down low in the centre of the car to lower the centre of...

    182 172 bla bla bla ????

    They aren't any different.

    TPS reading 78% on WOT?

Airflow isn't directly proportional to TPS. Its not going to flow much more air at 100%. If 78% at full throttle is nornal, fair enough, but I'm surprised they only open it to 78%. Are you sure it not 78 degrees?

clio 182 engine - where did the extra 10bhp come from?

Renault's engineering department had come up with a better 4-2-1 exhaust system and a freeer-flowing cat, but it wasn't 10 ps. So the rest came from the marketing department. Renault had released the 172. Peugeot had trumped that with their 180. So Renault's marketing department had to come up...

best way to fix/secure a number plate?

You attach number places with velcro? Gees, here we have to use one-way screws. Screws you can tighten, but can't unscrew. If you don't the buggers steal your numberplates so they can put them on their car, go buy petrol and drive out without paying, and not be able to be traced from the CCTV...

    195's on 182 rims

The lighter the car the less tyre it requires to get the same grip in the dry. In the wet its even more the case. The tyre has to push the water out from underneath it. Newtons laws say the water pushes back. That lifts the car up and causes it to aquaplane. To float on the water rather than...

anti roll bars and wheel reactions

Yes. If you want a car to understeer more you increase the front roll stiffness, and if you want it to oversteer more you increase the rear roll stiffness. Generally speaking. That general rule assumes that the suspension geometry is good enough that all the tyres are on the ground and...
