from what I can find the early euro 5 200 and 220 had different turbos and intakes but the euro 6 200 and 220 were the same. (euro 5 to 6 switch was mid 2015)

Steering wheel and rear LED lights finally fitted! After having a friend make the loom adapters I had the Clio booked in again with ELF Automotive to do both jobs.

Swapping the light units over on both the car and tailgate is one thing but you need the adapters as the original loom connectors are different, you also have to run 2 wires from the light loom behind the carpet on the passenger side of the boot into the tailgate to connect to the tailgate lights. This means unclipping interior parts, the back of the headlining and tailgate plastic. As well as loom splicing this was something I didn't want to get involved in 😁

A couple of hours later and we have a back end with updated rear lights and a steering wheel I won't cry at every time I get into the car.

Top notch. Is that a scangauge by the gear stick? Do you not have rs monitor? Madness they don't have a coolant temp display on them.

It is indeed, a nice thing to have and something I didn't know was in the car when it was up for sale. I do have RS Monitor as well but yes at least with the Scangauge I can read the coolant temp amongst a few other things.

Good idea. As I can only have either android auto or rs monitor on at the same time.

Insurance renewal time, I've been with Keith Michaels since owning the Clio. After having a massive claim back in 2020 they were the only company for me that were and still are the most competitive, not only that they have been by far the most straightforward and easiest people to deal with. More than happy to hand over the payment in full, so another year behind the wheel ☺️

The clio has been a useful backup a couple of times since the new year as the work car needed repairing. First time off the road for 3 weeks with a fuel problem and a month ago the timing belt snapped so now terminal.

I've just arranged to buy my brother's Mk5 Golf diesel they've owned for 12 years so the Clio can go back to a weekend car. It's done ok, 250 miles a week averaging 34mpg. It's been fun wedging a bike in the back in between a boot full of tools. Once it's off daily duties I'll book it back in with ELF Automotive for a health check and service.

Not bad on fuel tbf these. Cruise control on the motorway to work can get 40 to 45mpg. Smashes fuel on track tho, but then my comparison is the mx5 which can run on farts.

MOT time again, I had 3L of ELF oil already so i ordered another 5L of ELF from Opie Oils on eBay. I almost ordered from their website but they were asking £6.95 postage with FedEx whereas the oil was £1 more on eBay but free postage. Sidenote it's nice to keep using the ELF oil especially as it's running the hybrid turbo and has been for years. Renault now use Castrol but I'm glad there's an outlet that still sell ELF.

Everything I do service wise is main dealer so a new oil filter, sump washer and pollen filter. Again Ed of ELF Automotive did the service and sorted the MOT in which it passed with no advisories. Saying that it was noted the front drivers wheel bearing was verbally mentioned so again I'll be ordering a new one from Renault. He also fitted the plastic trim that was missing from the 220 LED rear light, again a genuine Renault part, he also replaced a clip that was missing on the plastic trim that sits at the bottom of the windscreen in each corner. This was noticed when I had the wiper linkage swapped out so again i purchased 4 clips from Renault just to make sure months ago.

So another year on the road, she only did 4.5k last year. And booked back in with Ed 9th August to have the wheel bearing done.

Popped into my local Renault dealer on Friday to order the wheel bearing. RPD price £79.95 reduced from £106 on their website page. Parts guy won't budge on their price of £106 "no we don't do discounts, you don't have a trade account to do that and you don't spend enough money"

My loyalty to the brand and coming to the local main dealer over the last 15-20 years and the fact I'd rather spend my money here than go to another dealer or even motor factors means nothing.....

Ok.......

Thankfully I know the branch and brand manager.
" Everything ok Rich?"

"Well not really, explained I've been coming to the dealers for years for parts, daughter bought her car from here etc" which they know

Chap walks to parts, insists they honour the £79 price and to order the part "This guy has been coming here for years, run it through at that discounted price"

Thank you very much 👌

I had this with a genuine battery that died before the 3 year warranty was up. Warranty manager was an absolute d1ck for 3 months, he wouldn't even talk to me but relay any info through the parts guy. Again I had to speak to the manager who then sorted a refund on the new battery I bought.

I know it divides opinions on spending money at main dealers but IMO on most things it's worth it for more than one reason.

So, new wheel bearing arrives on Tuesday. I may look a little smug picking up my nicely price matched part..

Nice one. This Toomey? They can be bellends but I was actually treated alright by Vauxhall last time I went in there. YMMV obviously!

Toomey indeed, I've been going to Renault in Southend as far back as when they were next to Priory Park as Lookers. Actually scrub that as I took my R5 GT Turbo to Renault in Hadleigh back in late 1998 to have a new clutch fitted. We agreed a price, picked it up and on the way to Lakeside it nearly caught fire as the turbo heat shield was smoking on the turbo 😅

The last decent parts guy worked at Lookers then they moved over to Cherry Orchard Way. He would do anything, knew everything. Would find obscure parts for older Renaults, give me decent discount and always be on hand to help. He left years ago and since then it's been hard to strike up any half decent rapport with the parts department. I know people in service, the salesman and thankfully the branch manager. Between them they've managed to help me out, long gone are the days of the friendly local car dealer...... Very sad indeed.

Ha, the good old days eh! I actually used to work for Renault, in Shoebury... sort of, we were a subcontracted company looking after CLIP (for the whole of the UK)

Got to visit Toomey showrooms as they were being built.

My line manager got some spanking deals on new cars! Unfortunately they didn't pass on to me though lol.

Picked up the wheel bearing from Renault today and ordered 2 bleed nipples for the rear calipers after being made aware that 1 of them was a bit temperamental.
Wheels bearings are a little bit chunkier than the old school Clio's from back in the day 😁

3 3/4" in diameter

Wheel bearing fitted, fresh Motul 600 brake fluid and genuine bleed nipples from Renault fitted on the rear calipers. On picking it up at Eds workshop we discussed a couple more jobs I'd like doing, Type D coolant change and the aux belt kit. Popped into Renault on the way home and picked up enough coolant to add to what I already have and will order the aux belt kit from RPD.

I think once those jobs are done I've then covered all the service items for the age and mileage (91k) of the Clio

Another job I'd like doing is a wheel refurb on the Trophy wheels as I've kerbed the edges slightly on the front 2. Which means swapping to the 17" black Cup wheels.

I'm slowly ticking off the jobs on my to do list and this one has been on it for ages. It's one thing hearing about the power and torque from the previous owner but I wanted to see it for myself, and to basically make sure after nearly 3 years of owning it that everything is as it should be.

I booked the Clio in a week ago and made the 456 mile round trip from Essex to RS Tuning in Leeds. A few power runs later confirms it's still healthy with the map absolutely fine.

It's where it's had all its mapping done throughout the years. 2 iterations of turbos, different diameter exhausts, different inlets, different induction kits. All to find the right ingredients to make what's it's doing now.

We were talking about this yesterday, the Clio has been mapped and modified power wise for 90% of its life, 60% of its life with a hybrid turbo. It's on 92k now so you'd estimate it's done about 50k on the hybrid turbo at least.

To think way back in 2016 my first 200 EDC stock was 189bhp and 172ft/lbs, so to what I have now and for how long it's been done that way I think that's pretty good.

If you take everything into account above then I'd say yes reliable for this particular Clio, who knows if someone else had gone down the same route modification wise how long it would last.

I mean who knows how long the clutch will last. It's still standard, the torque has been capped to help but as a wear and tear item they're designed to go at some point.
