Planet Coaster

I don't think we've had a thread on this, likely to be my game of the year (and probably the last few years tbf)

Being made by Frontier (of Elite Dangerous fame, amongst others). The core team did the Rollercoaster Tycoon games (but not the most recent one, which is a worthless pile of s**t). It's still in Alpha at the moment, but full release will be November.

Initial Trailer:

The Dev Diaries:

This latest dev diary came out today:

They've made a language up purely for the game, in a similar vein to Simlish for the The Sims line of games.

A video of stuff made by the PC community:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBFWNV3YAuQ

This is built up from modular bits of stuff, the level of detail you can get even at an early-ish stage of development is unreal.

This one in particular is very cool, built by a YouTuber called Silvaret.

Here's an example of the work that goes into creating stuff from all the little bits:

Official site is http://www.planetcoaster.com

I am a *little* bit excited about this game.

Loads of new stuff out today (and then the next few days) because it's Gamescom. The management stuff is starting to make an appearance, and there's even little details like a fast pass queue.

Custom ride entrances are cool

Looks good, although they always look good when they are trying to sell it to you. The New Sim City was going to be the best game ever (I thought)

Anyway, @Cookie little un will like this so until it is released what is the best older theme park game to get her? Nothing over complicated.

If you've got an Xbox One then Zoo Tycoon is worth a look (not specifically theme park, but animals are fun).

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 for the PC probably the best coaster game that's been released thus far (and it's 12 years old, so will run on a calculator and be cheap)

Nice one, will try and get RC3 for her if its cheap and she can have it on our tin pot laptop.

I'm going to buy planet coaster if it works on our laptop.

Just been having a look on the forum at some of the creations, it looks completely limitless building wise. I don't get how its done.

Shame I won't have a spec PC to play it on I expect.

I bought it the other day so I could play the alpha.. it is much harder to make pretty stuff than it appears in videos! Need some practice, might take some screengrabs of crap I've managed to make so far.

lol, it never is. I'm just in discussion with the Mrs on me getting a gaming PC.

Negotiations so far have gone like this:
Me: Can I get a new PC
Her: We've got nowhere to put it
Me: We could get a smaller dining table and I could have a desk
Her: Can I buy a new dining table
Me: A Cheap one
Her: No PC then.
Me: b**ch.

Gaming laptop, put it anywhere.

I have a man cave, which is also my office. I win.

She said the baby having a room was more important than me having an office. I found it hard to argue that one.

How much is a decent gaming laptop?

More than a desktop, and not really portable as they get f**king hot and need a desk anyway. They have all the downsides of a laptop AND a desktop in one, and barely any benefits! All imo of course.

I'm buzzing for this but also prepared to be disappointed. I'll wait for more reviews/videos and also see if its going to magically appear on Game Pass

Frontier have said no plans for game pass but I guess they'd say that whilst trying to smash as many pre-orders as possible.

Just reading back through this thread and funny how the daughter had just popped out when Planet Coaster came out and now she can't wait for Wednesday to play No 2:)

I loved the RCT games, but couldn't get on with the pathing in this game. Bloody drove me crazy, hopefully they have sorted it this time around.

Watched a fair few YT videos on it recently, pathing fixed and can now have plazas etc.

Not ever played Planet zoo but taken a lot of the mechanics from that apparently.

I played Planet Coaster on the ps5 as it was one of the free games for PS+ , played a fair few hours but struggled later in the game when it got harder. Was a enjoyable game like, building paths was a ball ache for me

I've had a few hours on it so far and the pathing is even more frustrating than the last game
Never played the first one in the end I don't think but I had trouble last night getting a piece of queue to snap to the path as it was raised a little, had to go through all the settings to make it work.

I had a little play around with the custom parts bit to chill out after work, about an hour and managed to actually get something looking like a building.

Few s**t bits with the yellow girders but not bad. Quite relaxing after a stressful day at work actually
