182 project - West Yorkshire

Hi all,

This is my new toy: a Clio 182
66k miles, 2 owners before me

So far in 6 weeks ownership I’ve spent £325 on an auto electrician, £50 on getting the UCH sent off and fixed, £700 on bodywork, £200 or so on bits and pieces like wipers, a refurbished seatbelt, new gearstick insert for the top, window crack repair kit, seat colour restorer etc

Just done the extremely fiddly job of finding and zip tieing the heater control sprocket thing, now getting to taking the horrible soft touch coating off the interior plastics.

Have just had a Milltek resonated cat back exhaust delivered (today) as they were on sale at £550 and the currently fitted one is ridiculous (it has recently set a parked up vans alarm off as I pulled out of a junction).

Next is some expensive garage work as it needs the dephaser/cam job doing. Going to get them to service it at the same time so preparing for a big bill, maybe £800-900?

All in all it’s costing me a fortune and makes no rational sense whatsoever. I know this but every time I put my foot down it makes me smile, it’s got bundles of character and there won’t be many 182’s around soon so hopefully it won’t lose too much money over time.

This forum has been great for advice and step by step guides. Thanks for everyone who has posted stuff 👍🏻

I’m in Ilkley, got the Yorkshire Dales on my doorstep so looking forward to some nice runs out in the coming months

Tried to fit the Milltek exhaust today. Failed! The standard mounts seem to be in the wrong place and are a bit cracked/fatigued, so I’ve ordered a couple of BTT “Renault Clio Mk2 172 182 CUP Uprated Exhaust Mount POLY Polyurethane Bush Hanger” which come on a mounting plate and should be a lot better. Annoying to have taken the old one off to get the new one on only to take that off and put the old one back, but hey ho

Finally got the new exhaust on yesterday on my driveway. Sounds a lot better, the old power sport one was too loud for me. It’s for sale if anyone wants to make me an offer 👍🏻

Loving all the northerners piling in! Sounds good, will have to sort out an evenings run out when the weather is a bit better.

Sorted the heatshield out this afternoon, it had pulled through on one side and torn on the other. Sorted now. Whilst I was under I noticed that the intermittent ABS light will be because I’ve got a CV boot clip off and probably a bad CV now. Anyone else done one on their driveway?!

I doubt it's bad, if there's grease around it it still has some in. Id pull it back as much as you can, fill it up and shove a jubilee on it.

Great to see Paul today at The Motorist, horrible weather but a lovely chat! So kind of him to give me his old engine cover and airbox; thanks again pal. Downloaded the Renault App after he said he thought mine WAS a FF (which I’d discounted as it doesn’t have the chin spoiler), turns out he’s right of course and it is! Happy days, particularly as now I know which cv joint kit to get

Nice to meet you too mate and it's good to see those parts going onto a nice standard'ish 182. Ktec used to do the front lip but it's mega money so most fitted a Skoda fabia splitter. Search on here for the part number although the fabia part may be nla now too.
